Wouldn't that put you higher up the list? The president can reactivate discharged troops at any time.

Dunno about age, though.
@Solid_Sonic

If you go active duty, you sign an initial contract with the US Government of 8 years. Its usually around 3-4 years active service, with the rest being inactive reserve (though you can choose to join the Reserves or even transfer to your states National Guard). So during that inactive reserve time, they can call you back in the event of a war or draft.

Unless you joined at 17 (with parental permission), then when you finish your contract in full, you'll be at least 26 at the end of the inactive time anyways. And if you do more than 3 or 4 years and you've done your due diligence, you'll likely have medically disqualifying things prohibiting you from military service.

Also, while you may think the military would be more than happy to have veterans back, the military has changed a fucking lot and so bringing in older veterans is not always as good as it sounds. The military would much rather have a brand new soldier to mold than trying to break and retrain an old veteran.

Should have made it same conditions as WW2, ages 21 to 45 would include most people on here. And i think you could be drafted even if u had bad eye-sight as long as it can be corrected with glasses.

I joined the Army with absolutely terrible vision. If you need glasses, they'll give you some mf glasses.

Like I couldn't identify a fucking giant ass E on a vision chart from your 20 feet away. It was absolutely dangerous for me to drive without glasses.

But the Army fixed my vision so now I'm good.

No. Im in my 30s so I doubt I would be high on the draft list.

But if I got called, I would go without a fuss. If shit got bad enough that a draft was needed, they need all the help they could get

Same. I wanted to serve but never did. Still doubt I'd be at the top of the list even if they got around to people my age. I work a pretty damn essential job that's already been suffering severe short staffing even before covid

well, I'm still on IRR so I'll likely be recalled. I'd prob have a panic attack from the news. Not because of the war but because I don't wanna live that military lifestyle again. It is why I decided not to extend my contract. Felt kinda lucky I didn't have any major fuck-ups during my enlistment but every single day I felt like maybe I fucked up something by accident at work. I wasn't in a combat-related job I just fixed aircraft all day and it wasn't fear of dying that made me hate the job just my lack of ability to actually do my job well compared to some of my more mechanically inclined coworkers. overall tho i am not a reliable mechanic so I hope I don't get recalled if shit really does get serious.

Just want to rant a bit more: Maybe like two years before my contract ended I sort of predicted that at the pace my mental health was deteriorating, I'd probably fuck up eventually. Maybe not during the initial enlistment but definitely if I extend the contract. Felt like I was gambling every day at work thinking that maybe today ill fuck up. Like damn i respect anyone that can stay in the military for 20 years and retire. Seen a decent chunk of my coworkers getting kicked out fairly early for drug use and mental illness.

also for reference, I was able to enlist with terrible eyesight, a past history of breathing problems (i was diagnosed with asthma) when I was younger, and also general anxiety disorder w/ possibility of social anxiety disorder lmao.

The eyesight and asthma were waived before entering BMT IIRC. In BMT you get an eye exam and they issue you glasses anyways.

The general anxiety disorder w/ possibility of a social anxiety disorder (it is what my psychiatrist wrote in her notes that I never saw but was told that during BMT by the captain that looked over my records) was a secret at first but I was a dumbass and admitted it during a survey in BMT during the first week. Had to go to the clinic and the captain (O-3 for airforce) that looked over my records was considering kicking me out but decided that he could create a waiver if I give him some written essay about why the airforce should let me stay that was due within like a week or so (had another appointment scheduled). I did write the essay but when it came time to actually see him again I was instead referred to some lady that just handed me a waiver. It was kinda a weird experience overall and made me worry for nothing. It did restrict me from many jobs btw. I came in open electrical and wanted to choose some cyber security job during the time to pick from a list of jobs but all those were omitted for me. fucking sucked it why I ended up as an aircraft mechanic.

I agree. Even if all they get is non combat positions those spots need filling too.

But I wanna add if the war was here I'd I'd more inclined to go ahead and volunteer. I've never been one for fighting i try to avoid itbut I've never ran from one. I'd rather go down swinging than running and living in fear

I didn't ask or start the war. Politicians can go jump in that war and get themselves killed for whatever goal they are achieving.

This. No soldiers to send to war = no war. Problem solved. Politicians can do their dick measuring contests on their private islands.
