Unless that response should be understood to mean that you think he will unleash full scale nuclear war. Then the question becomes where and on who? Putin is rational and acting to further Russian interests. How would global nuclear war further those goals? It wont.

Duncan is fully aware that logically, he is wrong. Deep down he knows that standing up to Russia, even with military, will not lead to nuclear war. But he feels like it will, so he will argue that point. But since he knows he's actually wrong, he won't give real answers to the type of question you asked because he knows it would demonstrate just how wrong he is. So he'll either entirely ignore you completely or dodge the question. Somebody else will make a post that he can respond to without actually elaborating his point, so he'll focus on that

It's appears that Russia is on it's last legs. War is never a good thing, but we must support our allies. Hell the NATO region in the area could quickly deal with Russia.

My big concern is how China will act. I don't think Ukraine or Russia is worthwhile for China. If Russia does take over Ukraine, I can see China invading Taiwan calling the US bluff.

Either way, this has to be dealt with. There's no pussyfooting around this. The world is watching and depending on how we act, this could fuck up a lot of countries from Ukraine to Japan. Giving Russia Ukraine is not the answer.

There is a reason Russia picked now to finally make this move. Ukraine isn't in NATO, so unless NATO grants them an emergency membership they aren't protected under article 5. Because of the political situation in the US, combined with being on the losing end of 2 very unpopular and expensive wars, there is absolutely zero political will for another armed conflict. Especially one that doesn't have anything to do with rhe US directly.

This is mostly about testing the waters for moving into all of the other former soviet republics. If you are going to let them take Ukraine, why wouldn't they be allowed to take Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan,and places like that? The ultimate goal being The Baltic states. Who are NATO members, but Putin's government has stated multiple times that they have no right to exist free of Russia.

This is the modern day equivalent of the German occupation of Czechoslovakia. If you let them have it, it will only embolden them. Germany was absolutely not prepared to fight in 1938, and either would have had to back down, and thus their Government would have collapsed, or gone to a war they were guaranteed to lose, had the West shown any spine.

No they wouldn't. This is part of the problem. Russia isn't Iraq. If the UK and France send their air forces to bomb the Russian military in Ukraine they are going to get shot down. Russia has a massive amount of anti-air equipment. They have a large and relatively modern air force. They have a massive amount of armor compared the rest of Europe.

Yeah people have gotten spoiled as to what modern warfare should look like honestly. Peer forces fighting each other openly hasn't happened in a long time. Last one I can think of was Iran/Iraq war.
