I had to give my kid one because she developed a fever at school and she got a big bit of snot on it and I think she screwed up the results. Her fever went away by the next morning so I think she actually had a stomach virus because her big complaint was her stomach hurt.

My perspective is that stopping infection is still important even if hospitalization doesn't occur and sometimes I assume people think the same way as me. So I read into your post something that wasn't there. My bad.

Fair play to admit that. I respect that. Ill get the data out with sources properly when I can get on my laptop.

The UK is quite interesting. Scotland and Wales had way more restrictions in place than England over Christmas and believe the data suggests very little variation in hospitalisations and deaths between the three countries suggesting the added restrictions did little to prevent the spread.

Im personally of the opinion everyone is going to get it at some point and the most important thing is to prevent the hospitals being overrun. During the first year of covid masks and isolation were an important part of this.

But with the fact omicron is so transmissible and also that vaccines reduce the need to go to hospital we are in the situation where more draconian restrictions arent necessary in the balance of things.

I appreciate this is going to differ from country to country so the guidance the US gets is going to be geared towards the specific vaccine and hospital capacity situation over there.

With Delta this would definitely a bad faith argument. I was calling out people making that comparison in 2020 for being idiots and they were.

With Omicron though its a more fair comparison. Especially in the UK where the massive increase in cases has not seen a similar upswing in hospitalisations. In the US I appreciate less people are vaccinated so context is import. Just be aware Im talking about the UK here. Not the US.

I havent ignored the results at all. The title says I have covid. Not once have I denied having covid.

Im not ignoring any responses. Ive replied to pretty much everyone with either follow up questions or responded with my rationale.

Those who have asked me thought out questions Ive responded to.

No wonder they are monetizing the whole pandemic. Why the FUCK did you need to take THREE TESTS at approximately the same time frame. Also the paranoid testers as well. And I'm also paranoid, but I mean, damn.

My wife is a teacher. We have huge boxes of tests. She has to test every day so I tend to do a few a week to be on the safe side.

I did the first test yesterday morning but due to a false positive a few weeks back I decided to do another to confirm it. These are the two tests with faint lines.

I did a third today just out of curiosity to see (the one with the thicker line) if I were getting better or not. LFT tend to only be effective on omicron when you are most infectious. I want to know if Im getting more infectious or less.

Next time I do a test will probably be Tuesday.

That's one way to interpret the data. Another interpretation is that at this point, people are ignoring restrictions. That seems more likely to me, but I don't have anything concrete to back up that thought other than the obvious question of, if people were actually isolating, how would the virus be spreading?

Even with omicron spreading and people growing lax about precautions, I'm still gonna do my duty as I see it. Every person I don't infect is the potential start of a long chain that could impact large numbers of people and have untold effects on their health. And the more the virus spreads, the higher the chance a new variant will show up to fuck us over even worse. I'm gonna do my part to prevent that, however small a part that is.

Further, there's not enough data on the long-term impacts of Covid, even when a case isn't bad enough to put you in the hospital. Shit wrecks your insides in a way that the flu doesn't.

I have loosened up in the past year. I don't get groceries delivered anymore, and I am seeing friends in limited settings. But if I tested positive, I'd stay home for 10 days just to be safe.

Thats true on any given day though . Im triple vaxxed so Im not too concerned about dying from Covid. My family has a long history of heart issues so Im more bothered by that.

The choice is yours TC, though if you're that committed maybe attending the funeral early or after the ceremony and most of the at risk relatives aren't there would be a happy medium.

in a county i live in that has a somewhat "low" amount of transmission it's still running.
in portland. it's not they're learning from home "computers". think this is going for a week or two because alot of staff/kids are getting sick.

other than that he/she is right on the no answer.

Im going to be sitting with family members who have all had covid recently so little to no chance of giving it to them. Plus unless Im confirmed negative by then I wont be attending the wake after. I was also originally meant to be a pall bearer and ride in the funeral procession with my gran but obviously wont be doing that either.

vaccinated/boosted clear the virus much faster than unvaccinated individual. may not show symptoms after day 3-4. but can still shed the virus past day 5-7 in low levels.

Luckily I dont have symptoms at the moment. I didnt do a test Thursday / Friday last and my wife has been positive since Wednesday so its possible Im already on day 3 or 4. Im triple jabber and also had a chest infection first week of Jan so wondering if that helped my immune system.

I think you're right. I have actually been very ill with it this time and still am a bit, though nowhere near like I was. The stupid thing is that if I test positive tonight I'm meant to isolate for up to ten days again.

i dont even understand whats up for debate.

if everybody is cool with you having covid and going then just go if you want to go. what do you want us to say about it? what even could be said thats not glaringly obvious? like i dont get what tc was expecting. its not like any of us know how personal this event is to you in a sense itd outweigh any risks, so must of us will just say do the thing without risks. and you arent listening to those people so this topic is useless.

i would go. just sit with the group that had covid or had some immunity from it for the past 2 months. cant really spread it so easily if have a mask on.

Your first post lacked any tell of emotional connection to going. So, I figured you didn't care that much.

My response just followed suit of being absent of a emotional connection.

I'm also soneone who feels it matters how you treat people while their here and stuff like going to a funeral appearance doesn't matter as much. It's just tradition. I guess I get that it's more so to support the people left behind by the person that are in emotional distress.

Well Im sorry I wasnt emotional enough for you bro. We are a very close family and this is the first real death Ive had to deal with and Im already 36. Led a fairly lucky life so far death wise. I apologise if Im not doing it the right way.

Sorry that probably came across worse than I meant it. It wasnt a great time towards the end. He was in hospital for about six weeks and we visited pretty much every day. Awful watching someone get worse and worse and knowing they were never going to come out. You get the odd bit of hope such as oh his stats are doing better today for a few days and then downhill again. I dont know what its like in the US but end of life care is pretty shit in the UK.

Like we were asking the nurses what the prognosis was and never got a straight answer. Like they were just keeping him alive as long as possible for the sake of it. 30 years ago hes have been gone in half the time. Fuck that shit. If Im in the same situation I want to dignitas my ass.

Unfortunately as far as the Doctors and Nurses were concerned they pull the plug and then they run the risk of murder charges even if you ask them to do it unless his next of kin can all agree to it and get a legal we wont claim murder letter iirc.

Not on about pulling the plug. When it comes to end of life care cancer patients get much more leeway in terms of pain control and end of life pathways. These dont exist for other illnesses.
