Yeah FU is a bit of a nostaglia goggles entry. I don't even think they had proper control schemes for that game lol. Imagine if that game had Wirebugs lmfao I think 4U is where I think MH starts a long ascent to quality. 4U in general I don't think was fully topped. Amazing fights in that one, and I personally like its charge blade the best. GU's base game kinda sucked but the extension was fucking legendary. I can see the defense for 3U cuz it has some of my favorite fights like Ceadeus or Abyssal Lagi, even though both are underwater fights, and most underwater combat sucked ass. It also had Lucent Narga, so yeah a lot of great stuff. The controls weren't impossible either But most sane people should honestly play 4U and on.
