Just rewatched Interview with a Vampire.

They can drink animal blood but why not the blood of the dead?

It goes stale pretty quick for them probs

Vampires feed off the target's lifeforce, which happens to be contained in their blood. When they die, there's no lifeforce in the blood, and they're essentially drinking death instead.

It's kind of curious that the archetype of the vampire has existed across the world in various forms for thousands of years now. Even though they don't drink blood but eat human flesh instead, the Wendigo also fits the archetype as a formerly human monster consumed by undying hunger, only finding temporary relief from preying on humans.

Blood from fresh corpses is usually ok too

In VTM the blood coagulates and is there unusable. That said you can use blood bags.

in VTM a vampire teach reaches a certain age well over a thousand, will need to feed off other vampires. in VTM lore vampire blood makes you blood bound so Vampire's cant just feed off each other. Usually the old vampire will embrace members of his herd and drain them. Or if they're really cruel just find random young vampires nobody will miss and drain them.

Their is also a small clan that eats flesh instead of drinking blood. They aren't very big and are walking masquerade violations.

Seriously, it's because a person that's supposed to be dead that gets up and attacks you is the epitome of the "Uncanny valley" effect, and is therefore terrifying to people.

i don't think vampires actually sleep in coffins. dracula was in one because he was, you know... dead, but he was up and at em after being revived

That draws attention to your weird crack den of a house

But real talk tho, the coffin thing isn't common. It's a meme from the original Dracula. More modern vampire media doesn't have them sleeping in coffins

Talking about sleeping in coffins reminds me of another misunderstood aspect of vampire lore: the wooden stake. In Eastern European countries where the origins of modern ideas of vampires come from, the wooden stake through the heart didn't kill the vampire. They actually drove the stake straight through the vamps ribcage and into the bottom of the coffin, to prevent them from escaping and leaving them trapped buried beneath the earth in perpetual undeath.

I see. I know there are different versions and stuff but I'm tryna go more off of Interview since they did a good job of tackling some of the topics like crosses and wooden stakes and whatnot. But the coffin, Tom Cruise was kinda just like "hey get in here". I understand the symbolism behind it, since they're undead and it's kind of the closest they'll get to death and rest and whatnot

I'm gonna be that guy: the book is so much better, especially if you go through the whole trilogy.

In Vampire Hunter D they invented blood pills that give all the nutrients they need to live, and vampires still feed on living humans cause it just tastes better.
