They're probably holding them in reserve. Once box offices start thinning out, they'll use the X-Men to rejuvenate the MCU entire.

unfortunately, it'll be incredibly difficult to integrate them into the existing story in a satisfying way. too many of the popular mutants have backstories that simply can't be added into the existing universe. they'll either need to drop those characters completely (doubtful), retcon them to be age appropriate in the mid 2020s (tough, but possible), or use multiverse shenanigans to bring them in (unsatisfying, imo).

i'm definitely ok with them taking as long as they need to find a good solution.

i love the x-men movies

The only reason I want them in the mainline is so we can actually do an Age of Apocalypse series of films down the road. Problem is that I think that might be a bit dark for Disney, it goes to some pretty grim places.

I can see them using the multiverse are an excuse to bring them in. In their old universe it's still the 60's but somehow they end up in 202X of the main universe, that way they can still use things like Magneto being a holocaust survivor without making him 90 years old.

There are way too many mutants to limit them to a movie every other year. There needs to be multiple tv shows for different X-teams. And even with tv shows they can still carry an entire cinematic universe dedicated entirely to X-Men for big events and crossovers. No need to even get the Avengers cinematic universe involved tbh.

You understimate how popular the current universe is. There would be a level of disinterest if xmen were seperate. The xmen movies never reached spidey/mcu level success.

I feel like they had a decent opportunity to introduce mutants right post-Endgame. They could say that some people who were snapped away and came back came back different, that the snap activated their mutant abilities or something. I really have no clue how they're going to bring them in otherwise, unless they're gonna go "mutants have existed in the main MCU all along, we've just never shown them!".

i still think this might be the answer, we just haven't seen it yet. i base this entire theory on one scene from Wandavision, though, plus a lot of wishful thinking. still kills a lot of comic backstories, though.

They've already introduced at least one mutant so far, so I think it's coming.

I think Xmen is phase 5 or 6. With everything going on in phase 4, its doubtful we'll see them anytime soon. They just acquired the rights not that long ago in retrospect to how much planning goes into the phases.

I'd expect a movie that introduces a few key mutants, as well as a few name drops or cameos eading up to the release. Then a show, then another 2 movies. Between all of that will be other marvel properties. One of the nice things about the MCU is that they take things slow to build excitement (to make money).

Think like 2027 at this point with Covid and other shit.

Nah, let them be Stan Lee level cameos.

All they have to say is the X-men come from a different world in the multiverse where humans evolved more. Itll probably be a recast for the characters. Also a reminder that the new Deadpool is in the MCU and theyve already shown the old cast in his movies.

Why does everyone but xmen get an mcu origin. Lets not abuse multiverse for no reason. This is not a CW show

That doesn't work for mutants as a whole, though. Simply bringing over the team isn't the same thing at all. They'd have to transplant all the humans, too.

Don't get me wrong, it actually makes more sense. Evolution is never going to give someone the ability to breathe fire or turn someone into a dinosaur-man.

But a magic spell? Yeah, magic can do what it pleases.
