masterpug53 01/05/22 1:21:08 PM #16:	What really sold me on the game (and helped me look past its shortcomings) was the sprawling, lavishly-detailed world of 12's depiction of Ivalice, which was quite breathtaking at the time. Doubt that aspect would hold up for someone playing the game for the first time these days though. Soundtrack's still a thing of beauty, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise just because it's not Uematsu's work. And it must be said that while I'm very forgiving towards most video game characters that others seem to hate, even I'll freely admit that Vaan is irredeemable. Also... The game started development in 2001 and Vaan was added in 2002 with the game coming out in 2006. While you can make some sorts of arguments that he was possibly not the literal first character designed for the game, we don't really have any interviews that shed light there that I know of, he isn't exactly someone that they didn't spend most of the game's lifespan in existence development-wise. After a certain point it revolves almost exclusively around Ashe, specifically the burning question of whether or not she'll become a lackey to the gods' grand design and use the magical equivalent of atomic warfare to smite her enemies. Customizing your builds, doing the subquests, exploring the world, hunting zodiacs, hunting specific gear you need deep in a dungeon, and of course the hunts.
