Its the highest grossing movie of all time, but no one remembers it or cares about it

and Sam Worthington's career died a quick, painless death

And they really think people want to see like 5 more of those movies.

Eh. As bad as the movie itself is once you strip away the visual awesomeness, calling it "pointless" is inaccurate. It was a groundbreaking movie from a technological perspective. I saw it three times in theaters when I was a high school stoner because it's just so visually pleasing. Everything else about it sucks, but you can't deny how awesome the visuals are. And the soundtrack.

Tbh I feel asleep watching it when a friend put in on blu ray. Like in the first half hour

like, that's really what they went with

It's really strange. Everyone knows that pure CGI ages poorly, and James Cameron should be more aware of that than anyone, being the one of the guys who revolutionized CGI with the Abyss and T2. But for some reason he chose to almost completely forgo practical effects and sets, and made a film that nowadays looks worse than his films from the 80s and 90s.

I mean... the Heart of Gold is obviously the best ship and they made a movie with it.

Waiting like 40 years to release the sequel is the problem. They should have kept it relevant sooner. I seriously don't understand why it's taking this long. The ending perfectly set up the fact that a sequel is needed.

the villain was Miles Quarich (sp?) and I only remember that because everyone thought he was in the right

I seriously can't even remember the name of Worthington's character (even though he was the lead) or the blue cat-lady person he falls in love with

Any hope it had of becoming the next Star Wars died because of that

The movie tells us the main guy has to take his brother's place as his identical twin. He's the only one genetically capable of linking with his brother's Avatar.

Then it immediately explains that the Avatars are genetically modified clone hybrids of humans and the Cat people. So... They have access to super advanced cloning technology, which will supposedly also be used to potentially bring back characters from the first film. Why not just clone the guy you've trained for the project instead of a guy that knows nothing about it? Surely, if this one guy was so pivotal to the mission they'd have 1 or 2 back clones of him on standby. Especially with how dangerous they claim the planet to be.

The Pocahontas the Remake.

Yeah it was so cool in theaters, at home it just isn't the same. I even had a 3D TV at the time but the 3D Blu-ray just didn't hit the same

Yeah it wasn't bad actually. Not as good as the first Clash but it had some nice CGI.

Sam Worthington was in a Terminator movie with Christian Bale. I dont remember the title

I like Avatar and enjoy rewatching it. But mostly I miss James Horner, RIP.

The Pocahontas the Remake.

Ferngully did it three years before Pocahontas.

Film is a visual medium and Avatar, despite it's derivative and predictable plot, is great at being a visual spectacle. If any movie is a "theme park ride" its Avatar, and when you look at it that way it actually kinda rocks. The 3D experience in theaters was pretty crazy.

The villain is the only good part. I was cheering for the invaders.

I remember Jake Sully only because the Kocoum-esque romantic rival kept repeating it back to him mockingly.
