The original Metroid is a great game.

I do like the NES metroid. It doesn't hold up well because there's no map and some of the mechanics are ass backwards, but for its time it was a fantastic game.

A great strength

Its fun & smart to explore and memorize the map, just like Dark Souls.

I think the original Metroid is clunky and extremely frustrating to play.

They're two totally different games. Y'know? I think you meant to say it's too hard for you. That's cool. I avoided it for a long time for the same reason. But Super Metroid is honestly the same way. The map almost makes it more frustrating at points. Zero & Fusion & Prime are handholders. Except Fusion & Prime cut you loose HARD towards the end.

Zero is kinda.... Easy

It's really just the final act in Zero that's tough, but you're basically playing Prince of Persia instead of Metroid.. so.....

Bashing Metroid 1 & 2. Yowch.

You're assuming that I haven't beaten it, which goes to show that you aren't really open to a differing opinion than yours. You're just wanting to write it off as something being wrong with me rather than the game... which also shows a startling lack of awareness. It's fine that you like it, but the fact that you can't see how horribly dated it is nowadays really says a lot.

I'm not assuming. I'm asking. I've heard this story before. If anything, I'm assuming in the back of my mind that you aren't being genuine. Have you beat it? Tell me about your experience. Did you use Narpa's Sword? ;) if not, why not? Lol

It's all good. There's two types of players. Speedrunners and Storyrunners. You seem like... Well... Which are you? I fall somewhere in the middle. Just don't bash my game . It ain't Superman 64, cuz. It ain't a glitchfest neither. I'm not swooning over the pretty girl either. It had a lot of real merit for gameplay. I mean clunky? Clunky is Deadly Alliance .

tbh i haven't beaten a single metroid game

the nes metroid i made it to the final area, but lost interest in the game and never got around to beating it. i probably could if i tried though. ive watched many metroid nes speedruns.

i also played zero mission. same thing, made it to the final area but lost interest due to life events. i'm too afraid to try again because i'm rusty at the game, and i'm super underpowered lol. i barely have any of the power ups, but i did make the requirements to access the final room so i just went in.

As a person that beat Metroid 1 NES and got the best "ending", it definitely is dated and not very fun to get into and tedious to refill energy. If only you had full energy on death, that would make it a better game.
