1) Zoo was closed. The tiger's handler, vet, the lead darter, and sharpshooter all had gone home for the night.

2) They probably would have elected to shoot anyway. The policy is always to put human lives first, even potential Darwin Award winners.

3) Most big cats (in fact most large predators) become nearly impossible to handle once they take a bite of human, as from then on. see humans as prey.

To add to this, I remember when the Harambe thing happened they explained that they really don't know what the animal's immediate reaction to getting tranq'd will be. Some of them get even more aggressive before the drugs kick in

"A wound from a 9 mm bullet was traced from the left shoulder through the thoracic wall and into the great vessels at the base of the heart," the report reads. "Multiple vessels were severely lacerated, leading to significant internal bleeding within the thorax and pericardium. The bullet was recovered from the thoracic cavity.

The severities of the lacerations indicate that he expired quickly," Stovall said.

Not to be nave to these situations, but why isn't it protocol to tranquilize the animal instead of using bullets?

It takes a long ass time for tranquilizers to kick in on animals that big. We're talking tens of minutes. During which time the tiger is now angry because it has a needle sticking out of its ass.

Should have let the tiger kill him. Same with harambe. If a human enters a restricted area, it's on them what happens.

i would be fine with it if the tiger didn't gain the taste for human flesh. unfortunately the animal has to pay the fatal price for what a dumb human decided to do to encourage it to do what it did.
