Also, this is the car they're rescuing from the brink of death for this project. Making it a roadworthy vehicle instead of a hunk of scrap is an improvement. Considering tesla refuses to sell anyone parts, this is the best available course of action.

I've read this, but is it really a case of you calling a Tesla retailer and them telling you to fuck off? You'd think they'd at least want to do business with independent mechanical and body shops.

Absolutely not. Tesla will not only refuse to sell parts to anyone (both private and corporate customers), but if you perform your own repairs from parts you salvaged from another car (like a body panel or a suspension component, for example), and tesla finds out, they'll begin remotely taking away features from your car like access to their charging network, then hold your car ransom behind a 5 figure "recertification fee".

Tesla, along with the likes of John Deere and (until recently) Apple, are one of the premier anti right to repair companies in the world right now.

Huh. It's just a very alien concept to me as someone who works in wholesale parts. If I didn't have shops calling in for shit, I'd be very bored unless we had a lot of service department activity. Guess I could organize and front face boxes that nobody would be able to browse anyway lol
