I don't have any issue with the characters or story, but holy shit the Marvel trend of shoveling in comedic relief is really noticeable this time around. And the CGI is fucking awful in some places.

Awkwardfina is the worst part by far. Remove her completely and leave everything else the same and it's a solid piece.

Awkwafina is a queen, shes the best part of this movie, and if you hate her you're a fool.

I always thought I didnt like Awkwafina but I really liked Nora From Queens and shes great in Shang Chi

"America was terrified of an orange" is the most brilliant line in the movie.

Great movie. Easily one of the top 5 MCU movies.

I loved this part because it confirms that the father is the Mandarin that we never got to see in Iron Man 3. Which also means that the 10 rings are the Makluan rings, which in the comics, were really powerful. Each ring gave a different power.

Speaking of overused tropes...

There's always a society thousands of years old and more advanced than ours who holds ancient weapons, technology, and power. Like, how many more of these are we gonna see? We already have asgard, wakanda, the sorcerers, the tva, etc.

Yeah I read that they changed the rings into bracelets because the rings were too similiar to the infinity gauntlet used by thanos.

Shang Chi is definitely the best origin MCU film by far, but I think the biggest downside to it is the MCU'esque stuff like the forced humor and CGI. It's why the parts that didn't have MCU stuff in it like the fight scenes in the first 2 acts and the villain being a three dimensional character are the best parts about the movie.

It definitely holds up on its own. It doesn't feel like another chapter in a bigger universe, it feels more fleshed out. It doesn't need references to other MCU films to work.

Just finished it. I'd give it an 8/10, would be a 9 if it wasn't for the awful CGI and the really shitty comedy. Marvel can't go 5 seconds without breaking the tension with a stupid reference or joke. They need to treat a serious scene as serious.

I trolled my friend by telling him it's just the story of Destiny 2: Forsaken.

But overall I liked the movie

Top 5 MCU. Great action choreography. Good characters. I really appreciated how there wasn't a romance subplot and they just stayed friends the whole time.

But hating on Awkwafina in 2021 is pretty cringey. She's more than proven her chops by now as a funny charismatic actress.

I didn't have a problem with her character at all. I'm specifically referring to the awful comedy relief that happens every time there's an emotional climax like the end of an action sequence or sad moment.

I like about 80-85% of the movie, but a bunch of the stuff in the last act holds it back, for me.

Shang-Chi is still a good lead, and I liked Akwafina, for the most part, and hope to see them again in the future.

also, can't forget Wong. very pleasant surprise.

I think the cthulu stuff would've been great if they built up to it more since the beginning instead of just dropping it out of nowhere in the final sections.

I loved the Katy character, I thought she was really funny, I mean it's just comic relief and I didn't realize she was so hated until I got on the internet. Legit I can only point to people talking about her name or her blaccent she later stopped using to criticize her. So nothing to actually do with Shang Chi itself.

She was also decent in Raya and the Last Dragon.

Yeah fuck Akwafina.

it was a great movie. I loved the mythological animals in the other world. I don't know their names but I recognized all of them except the faceless fuzzy things. I wish they showed more of them. Like someone could ride those deer things

Yea the animals looked cool. The CG for most of them was alright. The dragon was rough because it had to be so big.

I thought it was one of the best Marvel movies until the generic as fuck third act.

Last 20 minutes let it down. They built the big bad to be something all powerful but in the end it's a shitty cgi dragon thing ffs.
