When Goblin busts through the Daily Bugle and grabs JJJ, he asked Jameson who the Spider-man's photographer is. And Jameson pretends he doesn't know who he is.

I always felt like that was out of character for Jameson, who seems like he would be all about self preservation. You'd think he'd panic and sell Parker out to save himself.

I guess you could argue he's already thinking about how he doesn't want to lose Parker as a photographer because he's printing money, but that's a really quick moment to have that thought process when your life is in danger.

Added some depth to Jonah. He's a huge asshole, but at the end of the day he cares about his employees safety and won't throw them under the bus to save his own skin.

I think it's in character. JJJ is a dick but when push comes to shove he still doesn't want to endanger his employees.

Something similar happens in 2 when he starts to regret how he treated Spider-Man when he goes missing but as soon as he comes back he's right back at calling him a menace.

JJJ is a complicated guy even in the comics.

I almost want to say he's a Tsundere for Spider-man. It seems like when he can't have him, he gets sad

From what I've seen other people say, JJJ is an old-school journalist in the comics and an old-school journalist's golden rule is you never give up your source.

There are similar things in the Insomniac game. When Sabre takes over the city, JJJ gives genuinely good advice on how to handle the situation. And he makes a good point when the Raft says they're moving Rhino to a more secure cell.

Nope. Jonah is a triple strength douchebag, but he is a good person who does the right thing. He's also a prideful arrogant control freak.

So there was no fucking way he was going to let Norman's goofy ass get ahold of Peter (whom he genuinely likes), threaten him in front of his staff and make him look like a punk in front of everyone.

JJJ is a slimy asshole, but I don't recall him ever being characterized as cowardly or backstabbing.

ASM #192 had one of the best SM stories ever. He and Jonah are cuffed together with a bomb made by Smythe that will go off in 24 hrs.
At the end of the issue, Jonah reveals what his real beef with Spider-Man is:

Outside of his attitudes toward Spider-Man, JJJ can actually be a decent guy and a forthright journalist in the comics. Sometimes a writer may soften him up a bit too much, like a recent retelling that says he gave Peter the job because he knew he needed to give a good kid trying to make a buck to help after his uncle died a chance to not fall further down. Other times he's outright badass. He was used in an X-Men comic once and was handed all information on them and their families by someone that wanted him to turn the people against them. He not only destroyed the information, he told the source he'd been looking into him and found nothing. Not clean, literal nothing, making him the bigger story and threat to the people because truth is paramount to his line of work.

Telling off the goblin is well in character.

That scene was dumb to begin with immediately followed by Goblin knocking him out but refusing to unmask him.
