I have mixed feelings about it.

My current job is so boring and brain numbing its literally making me want to die. Like I just wake up every day and feel like Im wasting my time for people I dont like doing things I dont like and I dont even get good pay. Plus literally a high school student could do what I do.

so I was talking to a friend who works as a teacher and she says theres a lot of positions open in the district. I did some research, and I can become certified to teach in just a few weeks. I dont know if schools typically hire mid-year, but at least Id be certified. And if I decide to move, Im certified to teach anywhere in the state.

pros: I enjoy school, Id be teaching English which was my favorite subject, the pay is better than my current gig (and a little extra since I have a graduate degree), Id feel like Im actually doing something worthwhile, vacation time

cons: its still not a job I want to do long-term, the hours are longer per day, might take until next august to actually get hired, it costs $4k

Oh yeah and part of the requirements are having a few hours of in-classroom experience, so I signed up to be a substitute teacher until I become certified. I was immediately hired for the sub position so it gives me hope that Id get hired as a full time teach, but I also feel like pretty much anyone can be a substitute lol.

If you have a pulse you can probably teach or at least get a job in a school district right now.

Teaching is incredibly different than it was 10 years ago. I wish you luck. I have my teaching certificate in several subjects, and they couldn't pay me enough to teach again. (I make double what a first year teacher does right now)

Sounds like a nightmare job to me. Kids are the worst and teens are the double worst. Some people are great at it though and they are very important, so I hope its a good experience for you. Dont let little shitheads get to you, they have no idea.

I'm a middle school English teacher, in my 8th year now. I think as long as you build a rapport with the kids and treat it like a job (not a "calling"), then you'll be fine.

---
I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was, and now what I'm with isn't it. And what's "it" seems weird and scary to me.

Its definitely not something I want to do for longer than I have to. Not to say that Illblow it off or not try to be a good teacher, but as soon as I get a job offer for something Im actually interested in, Im taking it. Kinda sucks, but it is what it is.

Young kids are awful but I think teens can be fun as long as theyre not being violent or otherwise abusive.

i legit cant remember what I did for an hour every day in middle/high school English. I had some great English classes in college but those were only once a week lmao

I'm lucky enough to be in a school district that had their own curriculum. I've been teaching the same thing for the past eight years so I basically know our off the back of my hand. But basically there's a master curriculum you follow but you can add your own "tweaks" to it.

I also meet weekly with my team to discuss upcoming lessons and suggestions on how to teach it.

Also, the class I teach is blocked so I basically have three set of 90 minute classes, we have a twenty minute block of reading every day. :) During that time I'll meet individually with students and also do some reading myself.

Well shit. I needed to get a perfect score on my first quiz but I got a 49/50.

i chose B when the correct answer was D, both B and C. I didnt even read C because B was correct.

luckily I get a second try

I was thinking of doing this, but I want to teach in a further education college. I have a PhD in physics so I have some experience teaching but, in the UK, I'd still need 1 year FE teacher training. Then there is the issue of the limited number of FE places near me.
