Never seen it, but heard it goes beyond Friends in terms of popularity and was curious if that was really the case. Anybody here enlighten me on why Seinfield is such a great show? Is it still funny despite hearing laugh tracks--are they timed accordingly with the jokes?

The laugh tracks are times with the jokes, yes.

I mean I think the show stands the test of time fairly well, but I have a biased opinion because I grew up with the show.

Frasier is horrifically boring. I just dont get this show. Its like middle aged white people say mundane things: the show.

How old are you? I felt like that until I hit my 30s and found it resonated with me differently. Now its one of my favourite shows and me and the wife are on a second run through.

Seinfeld holds up because of of the characters and the actors playing them, plus the writing is surprisingly consistently great for the most part at least once you get past the first season which is just ok.

And yes it was bigger than Friends. It was more like Simpsons level.

Kinda racist to imply men of color cant relate to Frasier.

I guess if you can stretch that out to make that seem offensive then you could stretch what they call jokes out enough to get a chuckle here and there. I dunno, its quite the stretch....

It's an excellent show that famously fell victim to everything that came after it copying it to the point where it now seems unoriginal.

And the laugh track is a live audience recording, which I find to be tolerable.

I never understood this. The Seinfelds not funny trope. But I never thought of originality being its strong suite. It just had great characters and writing.

A lot of the humor is about Miles, and to a lesser degree, Frazier being effeminate men who aren't gay. With their father being a "man's man" by comparison.

Edit: If you do give it a shot, just be forewarned that season one really kinda sucks. Its only six episodes though, so just lower your way through it. The show starts to find itself after that.

I'd say season 2 isn't that great either. Season 3 onwards is gold

As others have said, it has a live recording audience. The laughs are real. It's kind of jarring in some of the scenes outside of a studio where there's no laughter in comparison.

It isnt my favorite sitcoms but it is funny and its definitely the most relatable sitcom ever made. They made episodes about literally every social situation you can think of. I liked it a lot when I watched it earlier this year and following it up with Curb Your Enthusiasm right afterwards was fun

I meant more so that's where it started to become Seinfeld as we know it. It's been too long to remember individual episodes.

true. a lot of people say "it's only funny because of the laugh track", not necessarily referring to seinfeld but some sitcoms in general. my response is "so what?" if it's funny, it's funny. a laugh is a laugh. who cares if it's just good editing or good pacing.
