I dont usually like to report people, but Im about a second away from marking every post with that garbage. Its offensive, its cruel, and Im freaking tired of seeing it.

It's 100% some of the cruelest shit I've seen.

It's not even Charlie Brown odd pranks like lifting the ball up before he kicks or whatever.

The blind girl stuff strikes me as a sort of depressing-cute you could find in various tumblr-adjacent circles, or Menhera culture in Japan; basically stuff that people with mental illness make as a way of sharing or criticizing their feelings. It seems like a really shallow reading to just assume it's sadistic and nothing more.

There is nothing cute about that.

It just seems like bullying someone of a certain disability. This isn't a case of 'oh, this person is blind and is drawing this to show their own bullying experiences'. The character is FULL ON BLIND, not able to see things directly in front of her. And the art is consistent, so the artist is clearly not fully blind. It's just cruel, and, yes, sadistic.

But yes, perfectly fine to draw someone getting bullied in various ways because the art is 'depressingly cute' or whatever.

These comics seem like they could yield much more interesting readings than that, and a receptive-enough audience could draw something valuable (not just schadenfreude) out of them. What is the purpose of ignoring that complexity and moralizing about the surface elements instead?

Because it's easier for them. These are the same people who close their eyes and get mad at movies/books that deal with uncomfortable subject matter rather than actually take the time to reflect on it in any meaningful way.

I think it's rather fucked up to draw, yes. I'm not saying 'oh they need to stop doing this immediately', because in the end, I'm not gonna go on and say 'censorship is best'. But at the same time, not gonna continue not saying how mean spirited and fucked it is.

What complexity is there in these? I'd love for you, with your refined palette, to explain just what these comics mean to someone like myself, who clearly doesn't understand anything more than the big, bad surface elements?

Art is supposed to make you feel things. Anger and sadness are what I felt from them.

But art is entirely subjective anyway, so it's probably not even worth debating :V

I can completely sympathize with an artist using trauma to vent. Im a comic artist. Ive been published. I use humor to process (and hide) my depression.

But theres a difference between using a topic to decry something and glamorizing it. Its a tight rope you have to walk, and if you strike the wrong tone you can fail or worse yet, confuse the reader. And confusing your audience is arguably the greatest mistake a comic artist can make. Shes done that here. Nobody knows what her intention is. Her message is missed and shes wasted our time. If she was attempting to condemn cruelty, shes given the impression of condoning it.

The comics are bad from an artistic sentiment, a social commentary sentiment, and as entertainment. Its just bad all over.
