I'm not saying they're always right, but I've never liked a movie that they absolutely thrashed. Except Boyhood, but I think they were reacting to the critical acclaim more than anything.

i adore redlettermedia but the boyhood review is atrocious. never understood why RLM fans love it so much.

mike completely misses the point of the movie. this becomes very obvious when he complains that the plot point of the mom being worried about the kid's driving never goes anywhere. "i was expecting them to get in a car accident! and then the sister had to go to the hospital!" he doesn't seem to get at all that it's a fucking slice of life movie. that plot point doesn't HAVE to go anywhere. it's obvious that mike wanted a more convenient movie, with the typical scene of the kid running through a hospital corridor with a concerned look on his face, filmed with shaky cam and dramatic music playing but... yeah, that's just not the kind of movie boyhood is.

...then the rest of the review is just mike ranting "this movie is garbage piece of shit it's the worst movie i've ever seen" for 20 minutes and jay laughing hysterically.

anyway, yeah, boyhood is a good example of jay disliking a movie i thought was pretty good. it does happen occasionally!

I decided when the second trailer dropped that it was not for me. Way too heavy on the memberberries. As soon as I saw the Stay Puft Marshmellow men I ruled out ever giving them my money

Remember how they could have rebooted Mad Max and instead made a completely original badass sequel that barely referenced the previous films?

Fury Road is the way. Hoping the new Matrix takes that route.
