I'm listening to it right now, I'm almost done with it. It's a wonder that all of Central and Latin America doesn't try to kill us all the time. We'd absolutely level any country that did 1/1000th of the stuff to us that we have done to Cuba, Guetemala, etc.

It always amazes me that we made it out of that without destroying the world. The majority of the people around JFK were essentially arguing in favor of kicking of WW3.

Yeah

For all his faults, JFK handled the crisis exceptionally well. He was basically fighting the Russians and his own Government/military to avoid escalation to war.

Looking back though, a lot of Cubans died because Fidel Castro wasn't taken out.

This. Thank goodness my father and grandparents were able to get out of that communist hellhole and make it to American when they did. Fuck the Castro regime.

The only reason the world wasn't engulfed by nuclear war is because a Soviet submariner by the name of Vasilij Arkhipov disagreed with the launching of a nuclear torpedo.
And it was only by sheer coincidence that he was onboard...

And then there was Stanislav Petrov, in September 1983. Could be third time unlucky for us...

We already had our third time, in 2018 missiles were thought to be headed towards Hawaii, Trump being the incompetent tough blowhard that he is definitely would have ordered a counterattack. Our saving grace was that it was a weekend so he was off-duty.
