I was born and lived in LA and never had a single run-in with a gun, then I moved to Salt Lake City and had a friend get shot, got held up at gunpoint, and a teenager was shot and killed in front of my house.

In most cities it really depends on what part of the city you're in how dangerous it is. Baltimore however, you basically don't go out at night. Ever. The rich white people are starting to bitch now because crime is starting to happen in places like Fells Point that are traditionally rich and safe. You can go to the tourist trap Inner Harbor during the day, but make sure you're gone before it starts getting dark.
