Is it weird though that the "Jan" of that show is surprisingly attractive, really the most attractive person on the show? More so than the show's version of "Pam" or "Karen"

Usually British shows are better than US shows but The Office is the rare exception

I think the US office missed the point of the UK show. The UK show's humour came from how believable it was. The US show is basically typical wacky sitcom but through a documentary lens. It being a documentary was tied to the fact it felt like this was stuff that could be happening in your own workplace.

The US one did do different stuff with the documentary presentation later on though. But at the start they seemingly just used it "because that's why people like the office!" without understanding why it worked. Not to say this makes the US one worse or anything. But most of the humour and writing is completely independent of the fact it's meant to be documentary.

The two shows are both very different styles, and I like them both for for what they actually are. I do prefer the style of the UK one, but the US one is still pretty great.

UK didn't tie in the camera crew?

British humour is dryer, satirical and usually more self-degrading.

American humour is usually sillier, over the top, less realistic and stories tend to be 'happier' in nature.

I prefer British style just because it's usually clever and each joke unique. I call movies that force out a happy ending, "Americanised".

American television shows the ideal, British shows are more about the realist, the ugly unpleasantness of it all

I watched that version first and always liked it better. Mostly because of Gervais, who sells the whole thing. I also like their version of Dwight more.

He was creepier/more pathetic in a way?
