In season 6 it was barely tolerable when they were unsure of the other's feelings and asking the other out, but it seemed to be eventually resolved. Then come season 7 all of a sudden they've (for some reason) broken up offscreen and Erin is dating Gabe and Andy wants her back.

Then Erin dumps Gabe and wants Andy but Andy is dating some other girl, and all throughout season 8 Erin throws herself at Andy but he doesn't want her. Then at the end of season 8 he does want her and whines about leaving his job to go "get her back"

Then in season 9 he leaves on a sailboat and she likes Plop now and he comes back and is a giant asshole.

It's really by far one of the worst parts of the show, and I actually liked Erin

they didnt break up off-screen in season 7. Michael told Erin that Andy was engaged to Angela and he had never told her that and freaked out and dumped him

Actually want to point out they did Andy very wrong in the last season. P sure its the writers getting revenge on Ed Helms for getting famous and doing movies

really hated how salty and petty Andy became on season 9.

i know he was an asshole before but he started to become more likeable at a certain point. then they completely ruined him in season 9 by making him more assholish...

Andy was never a good character, he was always a giant douche, they just hid that by having enough bad stuff happen to him to make the audience pity him.

He has a great goodbye scene, but by that point you just want him to fuck off and be out of there so it doesn't really connect.

Do people really think this without considering the facts of why he was like that? The show very clearly explains it and his change of character is justified tbh.

However I notice that people seem to forget how inconsistent Erins character is. At first she seems like a normal, if not somewhat quiet person. Then gradually we come to find out shes an idiot, but still acts like a normal person sometimes when the plot calls for it. Not to mention she contradicts herself at times, like not wanting to kiss Andy until his breakup with his then current gf was official, yet she had no problem kissing Pete before officially breaking up with Andy. I guess that rule only applies when its convenient for her?

My headcanon is that Andy was always kinda a jerk, but because Gabe wasn't very likeable the documentary crew gave Andy a more favourable edit by toning down the scenes where he's angry or selfish while Erin was with Gabe to make Andy the good guy in the story they were telling, but when Pete showed up they then gave Andy a much worse edit, cutting out his positive moments, both to portray the nice guy Pete as the new romantic hero and to avoid Erin looking bad for dumping Andy while he's going through some traumatic personal upheaval. Remember, the show is in universe a narrative being crafted by people filming absolutely everything and choosing what to show.

So, yeah, it's an assassination by the writers, but by the in-show documentary writers, not the real life ones.

Like I say, it's just headcanon, but it works for me.

What is it with people defending Andy and Roy?

Andy ran away and didnt say anything to Erin. He neglected her. He was gone. No way to contact him. He did it intentionally. And Erin is wrong for kissing another guy, who treated her better?

Tbf, IRL ppl arent exactly logically consistent in their behavior all the time either. People often will give a reason for why they will or wont do X, but its not the actual reason, and they may not even be aware of that fact.

Also its weird to insist a character has to be either a total jerk or a nice guy. Real people arent that black & white.

Roy was a douche, no getting around that.

Andy however I believe always had good intentions. Sure, he handled the situation with the boat pretty poorly but it's not like Erin handled it any better when she was openly flirting with another guy while he was away. If anything I think it makes her look like the bad guy for being so quick to end things without talking about it first.

Andy ran away and never considered Erins feelings. Actions have consequences.

She encouraged him to leave though. Also she didnt consider his feelings by already liking some other dude when he returned. It goes both ways.

You see, when someone treats you like you dont exist, people tend to find happiness somewhere else.

Andy went on that boat trip to film Hangover 3. That was the end of his character in the writer's eyes. It was just downhill from there.

I wish that they would have just left Nellie as manager for season 9. She was funny, even if she became more likable post-manager.

Either way, Andy/Erin was just really transparently trying to recreate Jim/Pam after the latter two were really stretched thin for storylines. Really, I think the show in general was a bit too desperate for relationship drama as a headliner, because it felt like some of it got really contrived.
