God who exists outside of time and space as we currently know it knew that His only begotten son would also sacrifice Himself to save as many humans as possible. So it makes sense to draw the conclusion that God would then test to make sure there was at least one human alive somewhere that would do the same for Him out of the same extreme love (and by someone who had yet to know fully of His son's sacrifice).
