Oh, not the Calgary or Amsterdam I was thinking of. My reaction was: "They're trying to bike where? Are they crazy?"

Calgary, as a Dutchman I can agree inner-Amsterdam is a mess.

I knew Amsterdam would win. I'm not surprised it was a landslide.

North American culture frowns on bicycles for some reason. The guy in the video claimed it was due to a lack of proper infrastructure, which I disagree. The lack of infrastructure is a reflection of the culture, not a cause of it.

I live just two hours south of Calgary. I can say for certain that much of the cause here is the fact that biking as a means of transportation is only feasible maybe 6 or 7 months of the year, and that's pushing it. Winter is too long, unpredictable, and cold for it to work.

Kind of poor comparison

I am a cyclist in Calgary and this guy decided to go from downtown and use Macleod Trail to go to Chinook.

He sort of chose a bad route just to go to a hardware store. Of course Macleod Trail sucks, it sucks for everyone everyone. He could have just taken the C- Train to this particular Hardware Store.

Calgary's bike path system is pretty good for North American standards. The Bow River pathways are pretty excellent for where I need to go.

I have ridden a bike year round, you have to dress for it.

I have only been stopped by blizzards and severe thunderstorms.

Though I agree a bit with that, its definitely a mix of it. I feel biking would get less of a bad stigma if the infrastructure wasnt so bad. But at the same time, the NA culture hates biking, making change hard.

Yeah... I don't get it...

Big noisey highways, people always cursing at traffic...

There are better ways.

I understand the need for a car if you have a family
