They put up the schedule for the next few weeks and I am not on it.

Didn't even get a phone call or a voicemail.

I've had a couple retail stores do this during the jan-mar months. One set of months I had maybe 20 hours total, with the assistant manager explaining to me that "part-time means that I can get between 5 and 20 hours a month". I wanted to punch him in the face so bad for that.

That happened to me about a month and a half ago...in the heart of tourist season.
I was never fired, I just kinda faded off the schedule.
There was a third-party investor involved that I did not know about.
He showed up mid-season and began making changes...he doesn't even know what town he is working in.

Anyway, I found a polite way of telling him to his face to go fuck himself the next time I saw him.
They are not going to make it, and I had a backup job all the while anyway.
~Still shitty and weak on their part.

if you arent on the schedule after your last shift go ask so you can start looking for other work its shitty what they are doing

I think everyone is being a bit to harsh on TC. We don't know how old or experienced he is and this could be a new experience.

TC, I understand this is a stressful situation and it's easier to just let it run it's course, but in life it's generally better to be active instead of passive. I strongly suggest you take a step if you can. If you have a manager you get along with then send them a text, email, or call them.

This is what exactly happened to me back in summer 2019.

I've worked in a shitty Ramen restaurant. Noticed that i'm getting less hours. The final week was less than 20 hours. And then for the next week, completely 0 hours. Meanwhile my other coworkers got all hours.. except me.

Instead I wrote a rant email on how he should just tell me in person to fire/lay me off. When I got my paycheck, he looks so nervous on giving it to me lolz.

When i managed a restaurant we'd have to do this to people we needed to fire because sometimes it was hard to get permission to fire people.

So we'd ice you out till you quit or we got the go-ahead for the axe. I hated doing it but sometimes you just gotta.

After a quick Google I have seen this as a tactic to get you to quit so they don't have to give you unemployment. Sadly it looks like you need written confirmation in most places to apply for it, so definitely reach out TC!

Pro tip for difficult emails:
Write it out and use Gmail's "schedule send" button. Often times people get anxious to actually send the email, so by setting it to an hour or a few hours from when you write it takes it out of your own hands. It can be helpful, try it out!

If you're a part time employee you usually have to hit a certain amount of hours until you qualify. If it comes out of your check and you're not getting paid you'll get billed directly.
