Isn't this incredibly watered down from what was originally proposed?

The major shit has been booted off the bill so democrats can ram it through with reconciliation.

Yeah, and only half of it is new spending: the rest is just re-allocating money from other purposes.
Weak ass bill, and the House shouldnt touch it until the Senate passes the $3.5 trillion reconciliation proposal.
I mean, the two combined are still far less than necessary, but

The likelihood of even getting the bill past reconciliation is well in the negatives so long as Manchin/Sinema are the deciding votes.

The dipshit republicans that voted for this stated that they were doing so to make it harder for Manchin and Sinema to support the big one, so if they voted for this trash without assurances from those two that they'd block the other, they are even dumber than imagined.

Quite a bit, actually. It's not the metric shitton that Biden initially wanted, but they can always come back whenever they have 2 additional Dem Senators or they can get Manchin and Sinema's heads out of each others' asses, whichever comes first.

Technically this bill only establishes a pilot program to allow some states to pay people to opt in to the program to figure out whether it will work or not. They still haven't even figured out how exactly they're going to measure how far somebody has gone, so it's really not likely that the end result of this bill will actually be a per mile tax. Especially since it completely goes against their current push to advance new green initiatives, since eliminating the gas tax in exchange for a distance tax would be heavily biased towards gas guzzlers over fuel economic cars.

There isn't one. The whole purpose of this bipartisan bill is they stripped the three trillion package down to just infrastructure funding and removed anything that was even remotely controversial so that Congress could actually get credit for passing a law.

That was before $1,200,000,000,000 in "infrastructure" spending, that surprisingly is actually largely going to actual infrastructure.

Don't worry. If you're looking for the monkey's paw twist, it's that the house has been showing signs that they're not even going to take a serious look at this because they want the Senate to pass the three trillion bill instead, so what's likely to happen is the two Chambers will bicker over it until we hit the debt ceiling later this year and the government shuts down over it.

$65 billion for broadband investments

I know the roads, bridges and electrical are the most important investments, but this right here is what caught my eye the most. Having lived for years in an area where AT&T refused to budge on running their cables a couple extra miles to our neighborhood, this is (hopefully) a big step forward towards catching up with the rest of the modern world in terms of broadband coverage.

Yeah, I'm definitely happy to see money for broadband investments. Cable and DSL internet need to go the way of the dinosaur. Fiber can be run all over the country and can reach much further than coax and phone lines can for data transfers.

The electric cars can take care of recording mileage and auto-report every time you charge the car at a station.

Yeah, but this has to be a universal solution, and one that can be retrofitted into older cars. That's what's going to make it complicated.
