Turns out it wasn't actually an emergency, and he's just an asshole!

(No big shock there)

Richards stepped up to the lectern after the last of Trebeks episodes and six weeks with 74-time champion Ken Jennings as the inaugural guest host. Richards told numerous media outlets, including The Ringer, that his presence was a last-minute decision: The intended host had fallen through, he said, leaving him just days to prepare. I was never meant to be a part of that process, he later told Broadcasting + Cable. Audiences warmed to what was widely viewed as the-show-must-go-on panache, an echo of the departed host of more than 36 years.

But two sources close to Jeopardy! tell The Ringer that thats not an accurate depiction of how Richards came to host. Instead, a planned host had a minor conflict during one of the shows upcoming tape days. Jeopardy! staff and crew told the host that they could work around itonly for Richards to step in and insist on hosting himself, according to the sources, one of whom described feeling surprised that Richards characterized his presence onstage as an emergency substitution. Contestants present during Richardss resulting host stint recall the executive producer as pleasant and occasionally apologetic as he prepared to tape, at one point taking over the traditional off-camera player practice round, usually conducted by the Clue Crews Jimmy McGuire, to get more practice hosting. But the rescheduling incident, and Richardss public explanations after the fact, raised some eyebrows internally. A spokesperson at Sony Pictures Entertainment, the parent studio of Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune, declined to comment.

I wonder if it's reasonable to assume at this point that the only reason he took the EP jobs for Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune is because he knew he could try and force his way in as the host of one of them eventually.

Figures. Guy was bad and pretty scummy watching him guest-host and of course they choose basically the worst guy (IMO) from all the guest-hosting to be permanent. Heck, even Dr. Oz and Burton were better than this scrub lol (and that's actually saying a lot because Burton in particular was pretty bad considering how hyped people made him out to be).

Yeah, so the entire thing was a shitty and dishonest ratings stunt. I think I'm done watching the show for the foreseeable future.

Disgusting post,.

I mean, at a surface level he's not wrong. Everything bad about Oz and why he was a bad choice even as a guest host had nothing to do with his ability to actually host.

On the surface, sure.

Not sure why you would stop at the surface, though.

Dr. Oz was one of the most celebrated and skilled brain surgeons in the country. When his show started, that prestige went out the window from the amount of pseudoscience and holistic medicine he was pushing.

And even after his senate hearing over it, he only got worse due to being one of the initial people to push hydroxychloroquine as a Covid "miracle cure"

Ben Carson was also a brain surgeon
