Considering a good chunk of elementary students cant get the vaccine, do you think this is likely?

There will definitely be parents who would rather their kids do remote learning than wear a mask all day

I think they might do some sort of hybrid situation here. Schools around me did a surprisingly good job keeping shit under control last year tbh.

No. Remote learning was a terrible experiment and led many kids to fail that would have otherwise been average. The only ones that saw little to no drop in performance were kids who were college bound, aka self motivated, or had involved parents that kept them on task.

Kids weren't allowed to fail last year k-12. If you showed up, you passed. (Many who barely showed up at all still passed)

In what district/state? We failed plenty of kids for not doing the work, as did most districts in Louisiana. It wasnt a free pass. Grant it they passed if they made up the work, but thats only if they turned everything the week before grading ends.

I know for sure MN, WI, Il, and like most of the midwest

I honestly don't believe you tbqh. With virtual and internet issues we had hundreds of kids with no reliable way to do anything. So failing them was just not an option. And many had a way to engage but just chose not to and were passed anyway.

I literally work in education, so yes we did fail kids for not completing work. But, even then what you described is the failure of remote learning: kids that didnt do anything (most of them) still got socially promoted. So now theyre in the next grade with none of the prerequisite skills required for the next course. So teachers now have to teach these concepts on top of the new concepts.

Theyre not going remote again unless student populations are detrimentally affected by the disease. Itll be reactionary.

I'm not arguing hybrid or virtual were good lol

I just doubt your state actually failed kids. Especially across the board. But I can't find recent grade rates for your state. 2018 is the most recent published one it seems.

Pretty based if you did. That just seems way more brutal than any place I've ever heard of. Especially when 2020 relied on having stable internet which the average family doesn't have as we learned last year.

They had plenty of opportunity to make up work. We were at 100% capacity from mid September to about March and went back Hybrid to finish the year. We failed students that refused to work. A third of our students in EACH grade had 2 Fs or more. Even I failed three students, and I rarely fail kids. Most of our teachers were very lenient thoughyou could show up the last day of the grading period with all the missing work and theyd give you at least a low C.

I didn't mean like they weren't allowed to have one F on their report card. When I said kids weren't allowed to fail last year I meant everyone moved up a grade no matter what. So even if they "failed" every class or literally missed like 50+ days of school they didn't really fail

Thats the first I ever heard of that. We definitely held students back that didnt earn the credits.

My wife nannys for a family and during the first week of pre-school one of the teachers got covid so they have closed the school for 2 weeks.

We live in Atlanta, GA.

Kind of crazy that schools universally still don't have a system setup in what to do if a staff member gets covid. Most businesses seem to have adjusted, schools not so much.

Districts around here (Bay Area) are offering both options for families, and the in-person schedules are retaining the block format. I suspect they are doing that to simplify a switch back to remote for everyone if needed. There was a huge debate about block scheduling just a few years ago and it was rejected, so the switch now has to be for the purpose of going back to remote if conditions warrant it.

Doubtful, but maybe. At least here each district pretty much has one set school where anyone who wishes to remain distance can go
