Is that a valuable skillset that people can agree is useful?

degrees in and of themselves are useless. it's how you apply the knowledge you learn, and of course, how you network

They aren't useless. You can't get a lot of jobs without that piece of paper

I don't know what you can do with it. I had a friend who majored in it, but switched to comp Sci.

A lot of places will filter out anyone who doesn't have a degree. I don't agree with doing things that way but that's how it is

I think you need to have a plan for what you want to do rather than shooting in the dark for another BA in the hopes that it will magically find you a job. I've given you advice on this before.

My plan is to pick the degree that is most likely to get a job, without doing a lot of math. I don't mind doing a graduate degree after. What else could a plan be? I can do student work while I study

here's the thing, from a theoretical pure subject perspective economics has some beautiful ideas. game theory etc. but there's nothing tangible. Comp Sci has a lot of beautiful ideas but has the side effect of imparting practical skills in software dev. unfortunately that leads people to think CS is just dev and not the beautiful theoretical field.

Not going to do much for you. I have an undergraduate in economics, but I double majored and also majored in mathematics. I only added economics on since it was easy.

Mathematics is the degree that got me in the door at places.

TC you're always posting about this shit so imma give you some real world advice.

No degree will open up a career for you (well except maybe a small handful). you're still living in the lie that college is the single most important metric about an individual's career, it's not.

You need to decide WHAT you want to do, then get the skills (and indeed perhaps a degree or credential) to make it in that field...

iirc you have a Phil degree from U Toronto. that's really great, many people in your same shoes have made it very far in life. it's not the only thing that was great about them though.

some degrees have a job as their end goal: for example with accounting you become an accountant, with law you become a lawyer, with medicine you become a doctor, with psychology you become a psychologist (at least in theory, no one in the US gets jobs with it, I guess mental health doesnt matter here, but in Europe and Latin America people do indeed go to the psychologist).

most degrees are the opposite, you study them to say you have a degree but they dont have a job associated to them - you dont become a spanisher (not a word, I know) with a Spanish degree or a philosopher with a philosophy degree or a liberal artist with a liberal arts degree. So the idea is you look up jobs that take applicants with such degrees.

in theory an advisor will tell you that, but I have never heard of a case where an advisor says do not go for a Renaissance dance theory degree if youre looking for a job, so I guess you got to research that on your own

Most people don't work for jobs that are relevant for their degree. The majority of psych majors do not go on to become psychologists, the majority of biology majors don't become biologists, the majority of physics majors don't become physicists, etc..

TC's issue is not the degree that he got.

TC needs to figure out what career he wants to pursue before any career counseling will be useful. He's posted this same topic like hundreds of times and knows that this is the general consensus, but wants to hear someone say "yeah, just get another degree and a job will fall into your lap". That or he's just trolling at this point.
