Do you look down on tradeswomen/tradesmen/tradesworkers?

I was kinda curious on how people in the 21st century look at others without some university accreditation of some sort - having worked some trades myself I cant say that at the end of the day having a degree means everything in the world

They also held some of the most unique perspectives in the world, I guess education really IS what you make out of it

no.

they provide essential services, and can get paid really well.

but even if neither of those things were true, I try not to look down on people's livelihoods...as long as they don't hurt anyone else.

So trades like builders, carpenters, plumbers etc?

All the people that are incredibly essential to give everyone else housing, warmth, light, heat and stuff like that?

Nah, I don't look down on them for being tradespeople.

Only insecure dumbasses desperately needing a way to feel superior to others look down on anyone in the trades.

Actually that applies to any job. But especially a job that tons of people couldn't do if their lives depended on it.

Bruh.

You can easily make 6 figures in carpentry, welding, iron working, boiler making and a bunch of other trades as long as you're willing to work out of town jobs with that sweet sweet pay boost, live out allowance, and ot.

My buddy clears 250k some years as a foreman up north doing big projects on mines and shit.

Hell I made 13k a month for a good while just building mills. Being in the trades doesn't mean you can't make damn good money.

Otherwise I think its just an idea he came up with cause it made sense in his own mind.

I know the pain. Thankfully the past few ones of each my company have worked with haven't been jerks like that.

At one job, the box covering got so bad my foreman just started kicking the wall to find them. Good for the rockers that he was pretty good at finding most of them.

Its a toss up. As a carpenter I have hated a lot of electricians, but only the ones who want you to come and do every tiny thing for them. They can fuck off.

I've worked with too many electricians who will stop what they're doing and find a carpenter to screw a little chunk of 2x4 onto a stud for them.

You have a drill, there's plenty of scrap wood around... why in the fuck are you bothering me for this?

Yeah, you've got to be pretty fucking smart, quick, physically and mentally strong to be in the main building trades. You'll be reading blueprints,, operating heavy machinery, rigging shit 100s of feet up in the air all while trying not to kill people in a fast paced, high stress environment. Many apprentices don't last a week.

I dont get it. Its literally part of the culture at some companies around here. Even those places have some really good dudes who just do what needs to be done to complete their job... but it happens a lot.

If its a big thing or you're waiting on framing or something sure grab a carpenter... if you need a little 6 inch box made or something just do it you goober. Lol.

No, not at all. I'm actually in awe of most tradespeople and what they can do.

My dad dropped out of high school and learned welding in the military. He did a ton of other jobs over the years (tree work, general contractor, grading) but always did welding and pipe fitting. He got into the QC side of welding and was making 5k+ a week on some jobs. There are many white collar jobs that don't pay that much...

I'm a maintenance director at a nursing home, and so I have to know a little about everything. Plumbing, electrical, carpentry, etc. It's a ton of fun and I've learned a lot of skills as I've figured everything out.

Plus, in another moment of bragging on my dad, he built his current house from the ground up. Dug out the basement, did all of the foundation, the framing, literally everything. Wired and plumbed everything. All of the sheet rock and interior, floors, bathrooms, etc.. Just amazing that he has so many talents and knowledge. He even did all of the required drawings to get permits. Between him, my mom, my brother and me we got the thing built. How anyone could look down on someone that works with their hands is beyond me...

It really is remarkable. I asked him how he learned all that he knew once. He laughed and said he wasn't born with a hammer or any other tools in his hands. He said he just took the time to figure out how stuff works. And he said it helped being poor for a lot of his life, because he couldn't afford to buy new or pay someone to repair whatever.

He always invested everything extra into more tools or equipment. He has a New Holland skid steer. Caterpillar bulldozer. Chainsaws, log splitter, stump grinder, etc. He even had a saw mill running for a few years. He took a lot of the trees from his tree business and made lumber out of them. Nothing fancy and all rough, but he built a hell of a shop out of some of it. It helps that he has a fair amount of land, too.

I know, CE could probably care less. But guy's like my dad are a dying breed. I've learned a ton from him. I wish I would have shown more interest growing up. Again, tradespeople are awesome. Nothing can run without them.
