I'm really all for self improvement and being strong and looking good but man...When you get to the point that you're pumping yourself full of hormones and dehydrating yourself for days just so that someone can lube you up to go on stage looking like a giant raisin...I don't get it. I never understood it back in high school when guys would show me muscle mags of Ronnie Coleman either.

And when you listen to these guys they all think they're too fat and too small. Dude could be 300lbs with veins the size of climbing ropes popping out of his forearms and he'll still think he's small and fat.

It's a fucking weird "sport"

Bodybuilding is just beauty pageantry for men. Both should really be abolished.

The way they look day to day is fine, but the cut for shows is what looks unhealthy. Same thing for fighting sports and their weight ins.

I think it's one of those situations where knowledge is a curse. I was much more content with my body before I started working out because I actually understand more about muscle building now. I used to just think because I was skinny that I had a good body

I mean we don't need to make reductive arguments. You can train, eat well and look after your health without eating enough food and PEDs to have a heart attack by 40.

Excessive body building can be incredibly detrimental to the body, especially at later stages in life

But just a regular bodybuilder? Nah

The problem I have with modern bodybuilding is that it seems to have strayed from the aesthetic roots of the sport. Even someone as massive as Schwarzenegger in his prime was beautifully proportioned. The current zeitgeist seems to just be size. I'm not a fan.

"Regular" bodybuilders are considered "fitness models" though and would do pretty badly in actual bodybuilding competitions.
