Ughhh... I have a set of clubs but Jesus, it's a chore to try to get better. You have to carve out 3 or 4 hours on a weekend to travel to a golf course and pay money to hack the ball around.

However, being at least "decent" (double bogie player) at golf is like punching a hole in your man card. It's like knowing how to double clutch a stick shift, repair or remodel a house, or commenting on your favorite bourbon with your buddies.

I'll never be good at it, but I can dream.

The closest golf course near me is 5 minutes away actually by car. I'm just starting out so most of my time will be in the driving range. I need to first be able to consistently hit the golf ball first

That's what I've been told. My biggest problem is making sure to keep my eye on the golf ball

Don't swing it like a baseball bat, or even a hockey slap shot, consider your body a pivot, keep both arms straight, and swing without trying to bend your elbows until the follow through when the ball is hit.

double bogue? like 2 weeks, 4 sessions at the driving range.

100 for 18 holes should be your litmus test. Over 100 is newb, under 100 is "regular golfer who sucks"

Practice two things;

• chipping a 20-30 yard shot that lands about 70% of the way to the hole. Your swing will extend from about 3 to 9 oclock.
• hitting a normal 5 iron at about 90% power. I can play a round at par on my home course using norhing but a 5 iron. Thats actually how I warm up during the first couple of rounds I play when starting back up.

If you work on building confidence in those two shots youve basically got most of the round under control. Other than that its just putting and driving which shouldnt be a concern at first.

It's that easy? I struggle to make contact with the golf ball like half the time, maybe once I spend more time on the range, I'll get better.

I think golf is a waste of time, butvi do like mini golf or putt putt as some call it

Whenever I bring someone new into the game the first thing I have them focus on is simply getting solid contact on the ball consistently at the range. Don't even worry about where the ball goes, just get to a point where you aren't whiffing half the time. Smooth stroke and don't try to smash it. It takes a lot of reps to get just that far.

Accuracy comes later. Golf is one of those sports that are both hard to learn AND hard to master.
