the original didnt have digital sales, though

Unless they say otherwise you're can only assume digital makes up 50% of the sales and even then that only puts it in the 50-60k range

Overall, sales for video games in Japan have gone down significantly over the last 15 years. Outside of the big guns like Animal Crossing and Monster Hunter, games across the board are selling like ass. This is about what I would've expected from a sequel to an obscure JRPG.

It's a huge bummer NEO is doing so poorly, but it's also a huge miracle the game exists at all. It's hard to feel too bad about it when I'm just so happy I'm actually able to play it.

I would guess the market has shifted more towards free to play mobile games? I know they tend to be bigger in Asia

Also Nintendo posted their earnings yesterday and their stock died. Should open at 57-58 price per share which was the high point back in 2018. Down 30% from their record which was half a year ago

Yeah one of the most interesting things about that decline in Japanese game sales is that Nintendo is seeing growth, Xbox is seeing growth (thanks GamePass) and the Xbox Series should outsell the Xbox Ones lifetime units this year, and outside of consoles I believe mobile and PC are also seeing growth. The decline is entirely down to the fall of Playstation in the region.

Is Nintendo seeing growth in Japan? They put out less games now. Also Xbox sales are insignificant even if they do grow.
