>Book characters omitted from the first movie remain omitted in the sequels in favor of creating original characters.

...why?

Arthur Holmwood was left out of the Universal Dracula, H.M. Renfield was left out of the Hammer Dracula, and Quincy Morris was left out of both versions. The missing characters never appeared in any of the sequels.

Similarly, characters from Jurassic Park such as Dr. Guitierrez and Ed Regis are no where to be found in the movie or any of its sequels.

Is it possible that licensing issues prevent the missing characters from appearing in sequels? (Dracula was public domain as of the 1950s.) Or is it just apathy on the part of writers? JPIII and Jurassic World lift scenes and scenarios from the novel than weren't in the first movie, so I know someone working on those movies must've read the book.
