SCENARIO: Your male child (9 yrs old) gets angry at his grandparents for buying him the wrong video game. He proceeds to smack his grandmother (your mother) in the face and storms off yelling.

Honestly, I'd send him out of the house the next day, then strip his bedroom down to nothing but a bed. He will earn everything back as he goes.

He'd get a very severe talking to. He'd apologize to my mother, and he would be grounded for a month. At minimum. No electronics. No desert. Straight home after school.

My mom absolutely wouldn't let him get away with it either, and especially not my father.

Grandma has a new servant for the next 3 months. Good thing too, her neighbor has an acre of blackberries that need cutting down.

Kid who does that is probably abused, bullied, unloved, ignoredcombinations of these and other things. I would be afraid for their well being.

I tell my mom to get the wooden spoon and smack him like she used to smack me, need to beat the devil out of him like she did out of me.

Closest hed come to playing video games for a year is watching me play em.

He no longer has a console. Its either mine now or its sold. If he has a birthday coming up he ain't getting a gift, and if my mom has work for him he's now an indentured servant till I decide otherwise.

First a stern talking to: son I am disappoint, it is not right to let out your frustration onto other people and harm them, you need to start knowing better otherwise here's what it's going to look like (getting pulled out of class, no time with friends, etc), no video games for quite a while, must make it up to grandma.

Then trying to figure out why he did it. Bullying at school, angry at grandma for something else, etc and try to hear the insecurity underneath to deal with the source.

Finally, the steps he needs to make to make it better. Follow new grounded conditions, follow respect for grandma and others, utilize new strategies to deal with anger (talking about it, deep breaths, taking space, etc). Once he's able to consistently show me that he's committed to making it better, reintroduce fun/warmth/luxuries.
