Maybe it's just familiarity but I don't like the lyrics and I'm not even sure what the song is about anymore.

it was "released" with a ton of old unfinished or unreleased songs a couple years after his death

It's very interesting and if that was the version that really came to be I'd still like it. It's hard not to mentally hear the Thriller lyrics while listening to this. The horror theme just makes it super special.

Damn, really shows the importance of lyrics. The music is obviously good but this would not have been a hit with those lyrics. "Starlliiigghhtt," is just, lol.
