Ehh... a large enough chunk of the SF roster is 30 years old that I don't mind adding new characters. I think it's kind of necessary for long running franchises. In terms of storyline, Capcom just needs to reboot it. And as stated the series as a whole is like 30 years old now, who expects a coherent story for anything that goes that long while still using the OG characters.
