Been feeling this again because of the Amazon lotr thing. I think my problem is that my interest in / love for LotR begins and ends with the LotR trilogy of books and movies. I never finished reading the Hobbit, and never had any interest in reading the Silmarillion. I just can't bring myself to care about the extended lore beyond LotR itself; I don't need to know anything about, say, the Witch-King of Angmar beyond what's presented in the trilogy.
