It took my wife and I a long time to give in and let our first baby cry herself to sleep one night. We had a video monitor and she cried for like an hour. My wife may have cried for longer than that. There's nothing wrong with you guys being protective and wanting to hold the baby constantly and make sure nothing happens. We were insanely protective of our first to the point if my wife was the only one home and she had to go to the bathroom, she'd hold it until someone else was nearby. It's hard being a parent.
