They'll arrest you for NOT having a gun. It's more important than your ID in Texas

Depends, do you have another weapon? A claymore or chainsaw? Maybe a series of throwing knives?

Grenade? Tell me you at least have a claymore..

Tell them you don't need a gun, you're that bad. Then break something nearby.

In all seriousness, I kinda don't get how somewhere could (in the sense of "yeah we support this", not just "oh the constitution forces us to so I guess we will") be all fine with open carry of a gun, but get upset at less-dangerous weapons being carried the same way.

To be clear I'm not saying "hey we should all be allowed to carry swords", just that it's kinda weird to ban swords but allow (and even encourage) something even more dangerous.

As weird as it sounds, it is far more easy to believe that a person is carrying a concealed firearm around for self defense without intent to harm somebody. A guy walking around brandishing a sword? It will obviously not work well for self defense compared to easily obtainable alternatives, so I would suspect his motives.

I wonder, do they have barrels full of free rifles for the taking lying around, like in the unreleased version of Bioshock Infinite?

the people that tout open carrying and how good it is also argue that britain is so much worse off because of all the stabbings...

I think their argument is more "banning guns doesn't prevent the violence because people just use something else instead, so it only changes the how, not the what", not "we're better because we shoot instead of stab".

Of course I shouldn't even need to go into detail about the factors they're overlooking in this analogy, but we do no one - except maybe those people themselves - any favors by misrepresenting what they're actually saying. That's called strawmanning. Attack the argument they actually made, it's easy enough to do in most cases.

It's still absurd it even crossed lawmakers minds. Only people I see carrying a sword are people into nerdy shit like us gamers edgelords and crazy people. Also as another said its not the best option for self defense. I dont care its legal just as said came off as crazy anyone cared that much about it

Oh, I think they know how absurd it is. Pols. live to propose laws that will please their constituents, even when they know they are inane, and unconstitutional. It allows them to look like they are serving the citizens without having to expend any political capital. They can also say I tried, but the other side blocked me!
