I imagine the average age here reflects the fact that the elderly are disproportionately likely to be vaccinated. This is why record case numbers from this recent surge haven't been mirrored in the death tolls.

Not necessarily, as that age group is also disproportionately likely to go to the icu, vaccinated or not. Base rate fallacy is pretty complicated with epidemiology, to be fair.

I will say, an average age of 48 in the ICU is very unexpected.

Based on the math, it appears that the vaccines reduce your risk of contracting the Delta variant by about 70%, but more importantly, for those who still contract the disease, they are 90% less likely to need hospitalization or be admitted to the icu.

At this point, anyone who thinks it's riskier to be vaccinated than unvaccinated is being incredibly foolish.

The latter.

The mfers need to hurry with a vaccine for 6 months and above. The fact that a vaccinated person with the delta variant is just as contagious as an unvaccinated person is kind of scary tbh.

We don't know if they're just as contagious, although they do have similar viral loads so it's reasonable to assume that they are. The real scary thing is that vaccinated individuals tend to be asymptomatic, and they were told they didn't have to wear masks, so now we've got a huge number of asymptomatic vectors for the unvaccinated to contact.

I thought it was mentioned in the recent report released by the CDC? It's good to hear that breakthrough infections are on the rarer side though.

For the entire pandemic, the vast majority of people I've seen going without masks have been young people. I know the supposed cliche is angry old white boomer republicans, but every time I've gone to a store it's been just the opposite-- young idiots walking around without masks.

i'm expecting them to be just as transmissible as adults. even if they're not gotta be cautious.
often having to move to the other side of the street or move about 6 feet away from the people because i don't want to get sick by them.
