I like working out cause it makes me feel great when I get a good work out in. The soreness is an award to me, it is the feeling of getting shit done. But I'm a lazy ass bastard so I don't work out lol I will say cardio does suck though. But weight lifting is rewarding, unless I'm not getting results then it gets frustrating and I quit lol

  • health and longevity
  • decreased risk of nearly every disease
  • increased risk of getting laid by 10s
  • not being put into an old folk's home at 70 because you can't get out of a chair anymore
  • everyday tasks are easier and less sore
  • increased amounts of energy (working out should give you energy, not sap from it. if you're losing energy you're doing it wrong)
  • better mental health
  • you are more physically impressive to others
  • self esteem
  • being able to do any recreational or sports activity without effort or feeling like you have to miss out because you're unfit
  • the simple joy in just being able to move around freely without restriction or pain
  • The sense of achievement and satisfaction that only comes with working hard at something over a long period of time and accruing hard earned gains from it

It helps if you recognize that pain is 1:1 tactile feedback of progress and investing in yourself

When your day to day is hindered you should be saying nice, this is exactly what I wanted now Im getting even more natural strain (gains) from normal activity because of how well I did

It helps to find an activity you actively enjoy and doesn't feel like death. And work on consistency until it doesn't take mental energy anymore to keep it up (i.e. build a habit).

It really is like playing an RPG. Nobody likes slashing rats in a grimy dungeon with a rusty sword for 3 gold coins. However, if you find the thing that motivates your sense of progression and gives you a sense of momentum, you'll be amazed at what you can achieve.

Look, let's not fuck around and act like if it had no benefits minus muscle growth that everyone would still do it. Obviously the only reason to work out is because it does other things for you. Very, very few people are working out just to do the literal particular activity.

We just wanna make sure you have a HOT GIRL SUMMER too yknow?

also I agree, its a crock of shit how I have to force this physical exercise on myself just to appeal to this new wave of people more interested in looks most of the time >____>

I would say yeah people still care about how your heart is but that was the previous generation lol

Ive always been pretty fit though.. and decent looking, I just gotta finish the job apparently and reach giga chad status just to have everything unlocked and even then I just want someone to see me

The irony is, the people who are really successful at it do it for exactly that. If you rely on secondary goals it can be a poor motivator. if you hate every workout but you're just hoping that eventually you'll look good, you'll quit.

I always use surfers as an example of this. Have you ever met a surfer who did surfing for the sake of physical fitness, or training, or looking good? Hell no, they just do it because they love it so much. They get fit and attractive basically by accident.

That's the best way to do it. Find something you enjoy enough that spending 4-6 hours a week doing it is actually interesting enough to keep up.

Better health dude.

And you do feel better after a workout. If you make goals like getting faster, increasing endurance or stronger, it becomes especially fun.

Its always going to feel that way when you haven't done it a while. Hard to motivate yourself, so you make excuses. I feel that way with running, even though i was consistent for half a year and stopped after my daf got sicker and passed away.

But once you get into a routine, it will feel like second nature.

I mean, isn't there a difference in how healthy you will get working out vs playing a sport? Sure I could just jump rope for 30 minutes instead.

Perspective is a funny thing. Once i got the consistency down and made it a regular part of my lifestyle, i enjoy it as much as other hobbies and i get cranky if i miss/unwillingly skip a day.

the best i can explain is that the more you get into it, the greedier you become and itll make you skip out on junk in fear of losing gains but also wont make you feel bad about yourself if you choose to really indulge once in a while

Boxing is a sport and its probably the best workout you can do. Theres other stuff thatll also get you really fit like bouldering or gymnastics

You joke but for argument's sake let say you took up a powerlifting regimen. On day 1 you're deadlifting 80lbs.

You do an hour session, 3x a week. By 40 weeks you're 120 hours up.

By that time your deadlift could reasonably be up to 290-350 depending on you. Like adding 5lbs to the bar each session for the first few months is completely reasonable. Adding 5lbs each week is reasonable for the next year.

Imagine being able to literally pick up 300lbs off the floor. That'd be pretty cool.

Yes but the main problem is always, ALWAYS adherence. Postulating over the ideal program you never do vs the suboptimal program you actually would do...which one will actually make you fitter?

Funny you mention this. I recently saw an excellent video from a guy who got fit in his 30s by jumping rope: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_O_QH75hSFk

You do get to see the rewards if you stick at it for long enough, but I appreciate that if you only like the rewards and you don't in any way enjoy doing the work it takes to get them, then it's gonna be hard to commit.
