I hate how Sasuke and Sakura both became their teachers but Naruto ain't nothing but a bitch compared to Jiraiya. Whole time he was with Jiraiya all he learned was a bigger Rasengan. Kishimoto musta really hated Naruto or something.

Naruto is a slow learner. He's driven by instinct and grit rather than being receptive to lessons and instruction.

He gets better, just with a jagged trajectory. Sharp power spikes rather than gradual climbing.

What? He improved tremendously. Sure he didn't learn fancy new moves but he improved his basic knowledge and intelligence. Shows in how he managed to take the bells from Kakashi and in battles with the Akatsuki.

Actually, Naruto fucked Jiraiya up pretty badly when he first used Four Tails during the timeskip, nearly killing him. He was overwhelming Orochimaru when they fought, too.

Or maybe this is Jiraiya's fault. He's proven he's a good teacher as he turned Nagato's crew from orphaned and helpless war victims to capable ninjas.

True however he's still nothing when you look at how far Sasuke and Sakura improved to the level of their teachers vs Naruto and Jiraiya.

And Sakura wasn't shit to Tsunade, lol; she only reaches her level in the war arc. And the only reason Sasuke was able to beat Orochimaru was because he was weakened.

This, also adding that Sasuke was the golden hax child

Well, yeah, Naruto was literally the least talented ninja in the academy. That's the whole point. He spent most of his time with Jiraiya just trying to master chakra control (The rasengan) and later the introduction of the Wind Release into it (Which was so difficult that Minato couldn't before his death, and Kakashi gave up and created Chidori instead through a different approach). Coming out of the time-skip, that meant Naruto had less on-hand training and less diverse techniques than his peers. It was critical training though for his later feats where he does some absolute chakra dump techniques and technique spams--It's the foundation of his fighting style that Jiraiya developed.

This was always such a bullshit plot point. He's supposedly untalented, yet he could master an elite technique like the Shadow Clone spell after a single night of training? It's almost always BS when Shonen try to push their protagonists as hardworking underdogs; either it turns out they're prodigies all along, or their skill level depends entirely on plot.

It's also not really a plot point because it was established in part one that the Ninetales chakra screws with his system and hinders basic chakra control. Fixing that was literally one of the first things that jiraiya did for him.

He wasn't untalented. He was a lazy prankster.

You don't know what the term "plot point" means, and him being "untalented" is bullshit as he mastered an advanced technique in literally the first chapter after a single night of chapter. This predates any convoluted BS about him supposedly having bad chakra control or whatever; the notion of Naruto being talentless was shot down right at the start of the story.

And yet the series constantly makes him out to be an untalented hard-worker. Kishimoto sucks ass at writing and that's a fact.

Lol np. It's a shame kishi went in the extreme opposite direction by making Naruto a child of prophecy.

I'm gonna be real and say when Naruto created hundreds of clones to accelerate his training for his battle against Hidan and Kakazu, I came a little.

I'm just a huge sucker for context appropriate ideas, and to me that shit made so much sense I adored it.

I think it's less that Naruto is untalented and more that he's an unconventional learner. Kakashi was good at coming up with ways to teach him. He made games of it, competitions, etc. And he invented the shadow clone method specifically for him.

Jiraiya was a good mentor but Kakashi made a better teacher in the long run.

Doing a training arc so soon after a time-skip was redundant. Naruto should have been a lot more impressive after the time-skip.

Shippuden started off horribly because it was adapting 1 chapter per episode and was moving things slow as shit. I don't think the Gaara arc ended until like episode 36 or something when it should've ended around 15~16 if they were going at a reasonable pace. It was hard to watch.

As for Team 7, Sasuke was really the only one who improved the most over the timeskip. Mainly because Orochimaru is actually (ironically, enough) the best teacher and could teach Sasuke the most variety of techniques. Naruto did learn more fundamentals, and Sakura learned healing stuff and improved her strength, but Sauce came back with a plethora of new stuff ranging from fire- and lightning-styles, new summonings and genjutsu, sword techniques, and how to manipulate his curse mark.

You know, Naruto's lack of control over the Nine Tails after the time-skip was really surprising. If I remember correctly, didn't Jiraiya want Naruto to rely more on the Nine Tails to get stronger? He should have at least mastered up to three tails after the time-skip, as that was as far as he could go without losing total self-control.

But sure, let's have Naruto say no to the Nine Tails only to have him fall back on it later on, negating whatever character development he may have received before.
