Lol I hope they make the dalmations the bad guys

I guess they do, they "killed" her mother lol.

Like 99% of Disney's live action garbage: *Criiiinge*

Why is her white hair portrayed as something such a big deal besides a "huh" reaction at best

I still like Emma Stone though so... plus this was the only villain origins movie from them I didn't mind checking out, even if ironically

I like the part where... jasper during childhood is a black kid and then as an adult he's... a completely different race?

Haven't seen that since Grand Budapest Hotel.

If you liked Devil Wears Prada, it's "so bad it's good" campy-ness. Otherwise...

It has its moments but then also has super cringey scenes that kind of brought it down for me.

In my opinion, the entire movie was pointless since they barely let Emma Stone act with any real bravado or spunk for most of it. Cruella is all about how big her personality is as it's what makes her a compelling villain. When you spend more than half of the movie in "Aw, she's just a cute art student trying to make her way in the world!", the character becomes much less compelling. I don't need to sympathize with her, I need to be interested in her. This movie mostly failed that.

Ok I have to wtf at like half the soundtrack being ripped from Legion. Colors, feeling good, all these numbers that were done in Legion (and, naturally, way better done) already

If Cruella gave the Pongo and the female as puppies to the respective families, does that mean they were the babies of the Dalmatians? If so, isnt that dog incest on the 101 Dalmatians movie?

Loool I legit love this whole evil dalmatians thing who have been trained to kill by the baroness's dog whistle.

It's like, oh yeah we totally needed to justify or explain Cruella killing a bunch of dalmatians and skinning them to make a coat

Oh my lol. That was a hilariously weird plot twist. She was her mother/daughter the whole time!

What a tweest.

I pretty much always like Mark Strong in everything he's in, anyone else agree?

Anyway the movie was alright. I actually had fun watching it.

I had a feeling I might. 3/4 years ago when I first found out they were making a Cruela movie, I was like "huh, I might actually watch this" and having emma stone's name attached to it only made me more interested.

That was low-key weird. It felt like they were doing the whole midcredits thing of Marvel. We really didn't need that scene.

And we didn't really need to see Roger as a spineless ineffectual lawyer in this. What bothers me about these villain origins movies is the need to take away from the protagonists of the previous movies to to make the villain seem better. That's not needed at all.

However, I was totally into the idea of seeing Anita Darling and the idea of her and Cruella being friends, we could have totally seen more of that and how they were friends during kids, and how they become estranged through adulthood over time. But oh well what we got was ok too

The set and design was pretty good. I really liked emma stone's red hair beatnik look, very art deco/60s era.

The whole ridiculous costumes thing was fascinating too, it definitely reinforced the devil wears prada feel

And yeah I definitely liked emma stone, I thought I would as soon as it was announced years ago, and I did.

Small pet peeve regarding a part I actually liked: When she was hosting her own show and debuted in her half polka dot dress, I know it was for the audience's benefit to go "gasp, did she actually do it, skin the dogs and wear them as her coat?" but I felt it was ridiculous that the newspapers in-universe automatically leapt to that conclusion instead of the less psychopathic "oh, she made a spotted dress"

Automatically leaping to the conclusion that it was dog, a dalmatian, just makes the people who infer that seem like psychopaths.

I don't know how ubiquitous dalmatian dogs are meant to be but I personally have never seen a dalmatian in my life, and only know of their existence because of the old disney cartoon, so if I see a spotted dress, I just think it's a spotted pattern dress, not "oh it must be the skin of this random breed of dog"

I think it had more to do with the fact that everyone knew Cruella and Baroness were fueding...there was also probably rumors floating of Baronnesses dogs being stolen...two and two equal four. Remember when Baroness does a "public event" she always has the dogs with her.

Another thing that made me raise an eyebrow is if the baroness didn't want a baby, why didn't she just get an abortion and pass it off as a miscarriage like in godfather 2. Why wait the full term, all 9 months, and the delivery, just to say "oh butler, go kill it"

I mean obviously Disney is probably not going to address a hot button issue like abortion in their movies, but in-universe wise.

I haven't seen Disney's other live action crap, but they're kinda all like that like as not.

Ironically I still think I could see this Cruella turning into the other Cruella, or at least I did back when I thought Cruella had like, 10-20 years on Roger and Anita. Them being the same age might make it a little harder? The assumption is that as the years go by and she's in her 40s and 50s, she becomes more embittered/alone and crueler, with her fashion being the one thing she can get right which is why she holds on to it so desperately.

That's my theory.

But yeah 101 Dalmatians being a simple cartoon movie makes it easier to swallow whatever retcons they throw compared to them ruining one of their classic Renaissance movies which is a lot more egregious.

Or ruining a classic villain by doing the star wars prequel thing of going "from my point of view the protagonists-of-the-previous-film are evil! Wah"

Or (I assume) copying Wicked's story of the Wicked Witch from Oz (a musical I still want to see someday if just out of curiosity)

Mine is that if they were to do a sequel, The Baroness, having gone insane, escapes prison and becomes the Cruella we know. She kidnaps the real Cruella and the puppies and it becomes about rescuing both.

I've skimmed the synopsis several times and I still have no idea what I was reading.

I like how Disney takes these stories and just adapts the cute factor but none of the weirdness. They did the same with Alice in Wonderland even
