Its not just being antivax. I dont think most of them are antivax. Before the pandemic the percentage of population being antivaxxers was pretty low and really a fringe part of society, not nearly half.

I feel like labeling them as antivaxxers is counterproductive to getting them to actually reconsider and get vaccinated. What are some good ways to approach this with people you care about that wont get vaccinated?

Funny thing is I bet you at least 80% of the population received some vaccine or another at some point in their lives, so to call them anti-vax is a bit misleading.

~50 million are too young to be vaccinated. The majority of the rest would be beaten by one of those 50 million in a basic math and reading test.

A small few would have legitimate medical conditions.

It could be anything really. Could be fear, stupidity (some people think they don't need it as they never had covid before which is the whole point of the vaccine in the first place >_>), they think that the vaccine was rushed, they don't understand statistics and think some outliers (like some people having complications from the vaccine, or people still getting Covid even after getting the vaccine) is the norm.

I've heard a few very hard-left people say that they don't trust the vaccine, often due to the speed at which it was produced. I mean, nevermind it's still just as validated by the scientific processes that all other times they'll (rightly) go off at you for being a conspiracist for not listening to... With that being said, one HUGE difference between them and the Trumper anti-vaxx crowd is that in the meantime, they're actually using masks / etc, if not outright isolating themselves.

The reason a lot of folks are against taking it is because supposedly it takes around 5 years for a safe vaccine to be created and they had this one out in around 1 year or less. I believe the vaccineis also contraindicated for children so that raises even more red flags for people.

Personally, i do not know how to convince these numbskulls that bill gates isn't trying to implant them with some kind of tracking nanotechnology or whatever they believe.

WHAT MATTERS: Just about 57% of the country has gotten one dose and just about half of the country is fully vaccinated, according to the CDC. But zero people under 12 have gotten the shot. So how big is the universe of people that's actually holding us up?

I can spend a day on that all. But the important thing to realize here is that two-thirds (67%) of those 12 and older (who are only ones eligible) right now have received at least one dose

The first part, they're overlooking that most of that 5 years is spent begging every imaginable source for funding - something they didn't have to do this time, with funding basically being thrown at every potential covid vaccine that was being developed.

The second part is outright false.

Except for the North East I believe even most blue states are still only at around 50%, its not just conservatives forgoing the vaccine unfortunately.

I discussed something like this with my brother-in-law last week. Basically he doesn't know what to think because both sides are saying so many things he has no idea whats true or not. Like he's not intentionally ignorant like a republican or whatever; he's just a C student at best due to genetics & parenting, etc.

He was never taught to think critically, so he can't even if he wants to. He's stuck in indecision which is effectively doing nothing... In this case; doing nothing is the same as not getting the vaccine.

I mean, the vaccine isn't hard to figure out. All the technology was already established, it was just a matter of using it with deactivated covid virus (or part thereof, or mRNA encoding for part thereof). Even the "new" mRNA ones, the technology has been under research for 20 years or so, this is simply the first time it's been applied.

Getting meaningful data on the effectiveness - and funding to run those trials - is the part that takes time.
