I mean I wish I made that much.

But there arent that many that rake it in, and I wouldnt want to be performing for people constantly regardless of the pay I dont think. Seems it would turn to shit (for enjoyability) pretty quick, could be wrong though, maybe it would actually be fun.

For fuckin' sure. I know it's harder than it looks, but it's not as hard as it used to be in the Youtube days. I remember sips joking that he had to quit streaming and when he laughed it off, he remarked, "If I retire, I'm going to still be coming out here to play video games, I may as well just turn the camera on."

With twitch, there's no editing, fighting the algorithm, or anything like that. You have to market yourself, maybe do some social media advertising, and be willing to accept that people are going to harass the fuck out of you.

Idk if jealousy is the right word. I wish I had their lifestyle but I didn't take the gamble they did nor am I good enough at a game to get people interested to watch. Envious maybe?

Whenever I look at the amount of streamers that don't make it, I'm a little relieved.

One thing is that I never really sympathize with streamer problems. Sometimes they complain about some shit that doesn't make sense even if I try to put myself in their shoes.

Making a killing off of streaming is a blessing.

they took advantage of a growing market when it was most advantageous to them, when I didn't, so I've got to give them their due.

if, let's say, I tried to do the same, worked as hard at it, but wasn't as successful, then I might feel differently.

Eh. They tend to have the most important skill there is: Charisma.

As for myself, yeah, to some extent. I wish I could make a lot of money by playing video games. Id imagine that it does kinda suck the fun out of it after a while, especially since youre often made to play whatevers popular for the views, but it still beats the hell out of 9-to-5 soul-sucking office work. The one thing I would hate is if I had to put on a persona, but I dont know how common that is anymore.

No. It's a lot harder than it looks and I wouldn't want to pursuit what it takes to do that.

Assuming we're talking purely gaming here, there's a clear split that many are aware of but can't quite put their finger on:

1. Users that present their gaming skills. These represent most speedrunners and eSports professionals.
2. Users that present themselves as a brand rather than gaming skill. This is where most stereotyped big streamers fit.

Not always the case where the second type is making all the money as few have built their skill to the point where that skill is a brand in of itself (e.g. BoxeR from StarCraft) and often times you'll see those same people dual wield both.

But for the vast majority, the big time streamers are making themselves and their personality into a brand and advertising that brand as entertainment. People have struck gold with it but many will describe it as "the grind" and I'm sure it does wear them down behind the scenes. A good example from this category that really shines the core skill set this category needs is Game Grumps where you can see where talent can (and does) overlap into other areas outside of their YouTube channel.

I've always been a little jealous of streamers. Who doesn't want to get paid to play video games? Fortunately my real passion lies elsewhere, but it's fun to dream.

And besides, if that's something that you want to do, start with YT.

Most YouTubers that started four/five years ago almost exclusively upload stream highlights now.

Honestly, kinda. I'd love to make good money by streaming myself playing games almost every day. It'd be the only way for me to get my backlog done, lol.

ProtonJon and Max Dood are my favorites and I often wonder how it would feel to be in their shoes.

Nope. Market is saturated, which is why the same dudes get bigger and bigger. The only real chance is eSports. Becoming truly good at a popular game and that turns gaming into a job, it can stop being fun.

Like watching some YouTuber travelling through beautiful places and living the life, then they beg people for money to keep them living the life. I don't get why people would fund them instead of using their money to go do stuff themselves, if that makes sense?.

you gotta work for it, and by work for it I mean work smart, look for opportunities

plenty of ways to make millions without streaming

but ideally explore other ways to make money than having a salary, salary is the worse way to make a lot of money

i know a guy who lies about what he makes, but i went on his stream the other day and saw someone put in 150 bucks. He has 350 followers (He lied about that too), but i guess its enough to be roughly 300-500 a week at this point.

however i do believe he streams about 40-50 hours a week.
