You can start anywhere.

Having played a grand total of two, I will use my in-depth knowledge to recommend only that you play the original FF7 before the remake.

7, 8, 9, 10 and then Remake. You can skip the rest. 4 and 6 are okay but the rest are absolute trash, especially 15.

Most people tend to pick 6, 7, 9, 10, and 12 as their favorites. You tend to hear good things about 4, 5, 8, and 14 from the people those appeal to, but some also don't like them. 1 and 3 are good in historical context, but don't really hold up well, 2 is absolutely a black sheep, 11 is an outdated MMO (but some people like that), 13 is a pile of games none of which really standout, 15 is a like it or hate it game, but probably no one is going to say they loved it.

My personal favorites are 5, 7, and 10. I also play 14 and have done all current content. I think it's the best MMO out there.

4 I feel is a decent starting point. No idea though really, I started with 1 and loved it where many people don't. It's a very variable series

I've said this time and time again. If your looking to start the series with a 2d game go with 4. It isn't the best FF but it gives a decent introduction to the style of the first 10 games.

If your looking for an early 3d game go with 7 or 9. If your looking for a later 3d game go with 7 Remake. I'd skip 12, 13 and 15, but that's just me. Leave them to the end if you want.

Hmmm depends on what you like

10 if graphics are more important to you

12 if lore is most important

6 or 7 if a good story is what appeals

8 if you want a system you can break and become over powered in like an hour

9 is good all round but best viewed after playing a couple of them because its full of references

my order would go 6,7,10,12,9 with 8 between 7 & 10 but that game is divisive.

all of those are pretty fun games. Id recommend only getting ones with speed boost though as the original games are borderline unplayable without that feature

Try 15 first, since it's super accessible to casual gamers, and everything afterward will feel like a solid improvement narratively.
(For a more genuine answer, play 10.)

Only go into 14 if you want to relinquish having a social life.

id suggest 10 personally. Its got a great story, memorable characters, its the first one with voice acting, proper cutscenes. They hired an orchestra to play the music. The budget was through the roof and they really outdone themselves. The gameplay was tops too

11 and 14 are MMORPGs and not the same as the others. No idea why they are numbered FFs instead of subtitled

You don't want to be thrown into the absolute best, which is VII or X. Maybe IV.

7 it is. Honestly have no idea what to expect - Ive heard some are standard RPGs and some are turn-based?

I recommend starting with 4 as it rolls up all the established tropes of the previous 3 games into a single package & introduced the ATB that would define the series for three rest of its life.

6 is the best one.

Play original 7 before 7 Remake

Play the others in any order you want.

PSP generally has the best version of any game if it exists on that platform.

Do not play FF4DS without playing the Original.

I think 9 is best one to start with. 10 is alright, but I played it for the first time not too long ago, so it didn't move me in the same way as other people. I still prefer 9 over it. 12 is one of my favorites, but it's very different than the standard FF game.
