I mean critically it did great.

But since release fans always hated on it for introducing Lifegems, the lack of boss vareity and end to infinite respawns. But I dunno man, a lot of that always seemed reactionary to me.

Seems more like people were just upset that it wasn't just DS1 again, which to me is a good thing.

It's more inspired than DaS3. It at least tries to be its own game. It's not as technically good as DaS3, but at least it isn't just a Bloodborne with a DaS1 skin rehash like DaS3.

Yes, it's easily the worst in the trilogy. I still love the worst Dark Souls over most games though, and got every achievement/platinum in it just like the others.

In its time it was still the only must play game out, and it was an incredible amount of fun despite not being Dark Souls 3 or Bloodborne, which werent even out yet. Would I revisit it? Probably.

Bloodborne is just the better game in many regards. Dark Souls II rolled the dice to see if fans wanted to take it in a more serious direction. The progressive rotting each time you die and all in all creating a much bigger world were part of that. Its a shame the fightclub community never figured out the trick with Soul Memory :(

Not at all especially if we are talking SoTFS.

The issue is people need to play it for what it is and not worry about what it isnt. Its Dark Souls 2, not Dark Souls.

Its okay if I totally cheat in PvP, but when the enemies start doing it... I get salty.

I can list more personal positives for me than negatives tbh

I liked how nonlinear the first 2/3 of the game was compared to Dark Souls 3 which is super linear

I liked how you didn't have to get to the penultimate area of the game before magic builds start being good (like Dark Souls 3)

Hell I liked what they did for build variety in general like introducing hexes, power stancing, etc. It's still the game that I did the most PvP in out of all the games in the series

Negatives would be like how bullshit the OG Shrine of Amana was, those infinite stamina mace Drakekeepers, horsefuck valley, gank squad, etc.

If you don't enjoy PvP it's absolute shit. If you do enjoy PvP it's absolute shit...well, it was, SotFS fixed Soul Memory, kind of.
