Usually, anime adaptations of manga go in with two chapters per one episode, assuming the original manga was a weekly series.

I knew before that One Piece had slowed this down to one chapter per episode, but I'm reading a thread over on OT, and they're now saying that the anime's pacing has gotten so bad that now it's only covering a half of a chapter per episode. That sounds absolutely dreadful, and I wonder how people are even able to put up with that?

I didn't. I dropped the anime like 10 years ago and haven't looked back.

And I thought Naruto's endless filler following the Sasuke Retrieval Arc was bad.

That's the reason One piece went this direction. To avoid filler arcs. It was just taking things in the other extreme.

are they still doing the thing where the first 15 minutes of the episode are the last 15 minutes of the previous one?

I watched the anime until punk hazard (current at the time) and then switched to the manga. I wish I had changed over earlier. I still catch the odd episode that I want to check out nowadays, the animation quality has gotten a lot better within the last year or so, but thats about it.

Nah, its the anime industry being unable to accept that the weekly anime rush is unsustainable. If they just took like a three month break per year they could have higher quality episodes and no filler, but of course that would drop sales. So they would rather just stick with mediocre.

This. Hero Academia, Jujutsu Kaisen and others prove that the weekly schedule is outdated.

I'm almost done with Water 7. Once I get caught up with the dub, I'll probably continue with the manga

Yep, and it doesn't help that OP is so huge in Japan that it's a way of life for some people. Toei knows they'll get ratings no matter how shit the product.

Thriller Bark was incredibly slow for me. Can't even be bothered reading either until an arc if finished nowadays.

I'd recommend anyone who can't arsed reading and values their time to try One Pace instead of the Anime post timeskip.
