Every time someone mentions this game I think they're talking about The Outer Wilds which was such a good game. This happen to anyone else?

I thought the dialog was great and the characters were fun. Certain scenarios were REALLY memorable but the narrative as a whole is largely run of the mill.

I always think that they're talking about whichever one is the opposite of the one they typed.

I can barely remember which one is which unless I really think about it.

This. It's hurt mostly by some of the hub worlds being unnecessarily large and full of repetitive quests and a lack of enemy diversity. That said it's a fun game and I don't regret any of the 50 or so hours I put into it.

But to add to the topic I really enjoyed The Outer Worlds. I think it was a neat world, I just felt it was a bit short of a story.

I felt like you spent a whole helluva long time on the first world and then it really felt like each world after was shorter and shorter and less and less quests afterwards.

But overall it felt like a decent blend of Fallout/Mass Effect.

The characters are great, but the gameplay is definitely boring.

A solid mediocre. They laid a good foundation, one that will hopefully be built upon with the sequel.

It is like as middle of the road as they come. It had good writing like most Obsidian games. And it was shockingly stable for an Obsidian game. But it's gameplay and worlds were just sorta meh.

I feel like that probably mirrors their development cycle.

Haven't played that much of it but even if it's near the bottom of Obsidian games that doesn't mean much. They've made a lot of really, really good games.

One of my GotG games.

As others have said; great characters. IMO, that's TOW greatest strength.

Gameplay...it's like two different games depending on the difficulty you choose. My first playthrough was on normal and I talked my way through everything and really loved it. Dialogue is probably the second greatest strength the game has...and boy, is there a lot of it. Obsidian really brought it in this regard.

The second way is on its hardest difficulty and playing a more combat role while your companions are at risk of permadeath. On this difficulty, the guts of the game...skill levels, attributes, healing, companions, etc. all really shine. Obsidian really brought it here too.

I love this game so much. Maybe my all time favorite cast of characters with really thought out quest giving characters as well. The music is, to me, sublimely perfect for what this game is...a story of colonizing the wild frontier of deep space. It's haunting and mysterious and otherworldly. It's a game I'll replay again and again...maybe. :) TOW2 has been announced and Avowed. I can't hardly wait to see what Avowed is.

That game was such a bummer, got your hopes up with the first planet only to discover that the game had already peaked
