As said in my edit its only longer string combos I have a problem with cause I play a lot of characters and usually cant remember them. Doa 5 at least had a option to have some combos displayed on the screen which results in a funny trophy titled "how do I fight?"

If I stuck to one or two characters id fare better but that gets boring to me

Need to have a good anti air too. They will learn to jump over them. But any really bad scrub in sf can be beat with hadokens and shryukens

People simply don't play them enough. You can be decent at fighters and pretty much any game just by playing a ton. Obviously you won't be world class with just practice and experience alone, but helps a ton.

i realized this one is actually easier to answer than i thought after watching a couple of pro fighters fumbling around with unfamiliar characters for a "random select" tournament.

it's because they don't know how to properly play fighters as if they think they're supposed to learn the whole cast in order to play the game.

in reality you're supposed to pick ONE single character and then learn the entire game from their point of view, eg. the character's good moves like pokes and punishes/bnb combos/good and bad match ups/learn how to block, counter and punish other characters etc.. then when you've become decent you can pick a sub character or jump over to another main and start over.

makes total sense when i think about the main the reason beginners play fighters wrong is maybe because they have a sunk cost fallacy mentality like "if i don't touch every character then i won't feel like i've got my money's worth with this game".

I play video games to chill out and have a good time, not get all sweaty and rage out against people who put 1000 hours into a game for each character.

I just don't find them interesting enough to get good at. Like the learning curve is fucking steep and even at the top level you're not really doing cool looking shit most of the time. I watch pro fighting tournaments and it's just incredibly well timed jabs and blocks, it seems boring to me.

Sonicfox disagrees and its largely game dependent. Some games you NEED to learn multiple chararacters like Mvc or Kof.

not all games within a genre is created equal but granted, it follows that in team based games you're forced to learn more than one character from the get go.

And I disagree. Infiltration learned how to play Elena in ONE day and i think he won a tournament with her. Its only in old school hard games where you learn one character if you are a beginner

This is part of why fighting games aren't popular. Some gamers don't like pvp, the one's that do might not play many games that are super competitive or need as much individual skill since fighting games are 1v1. A lot of them can't stand constant losing streaks and getting their ass kicked so they just quit the game rather than learning it, and very casual gamers will quit games rather than taking the time to learn them. Also the online in most of them is absolute garbage, so some losses fee like they're out of your control.

I used to play SCVI a bit, and had like 600-ish wins which was more than my losses but I STILL feel like I'm trash at the game. Most people aren't willing to put that many hours into actual practice against other players, or training modes.

Fighters do a lot to try and retain newbies who don't like to lose by rewarding them for every little thing.

It's why many recent titles have been "simplified" or have stuff like auto combos.

It's different from choosing a load out and playing online in a fps game. You might get 1 kill but in the end your team wins anyway. In a fighter, it's all on you.

Yeah the common person just sucks I think. I remember going over to a dude's house and played some Injustice 2 with some people who had been there playing it for awhile. It was the first time I played and I just rolled in and stomped them, and then they said I was lying about it being my first time. I had to explain to them that just because I beat their shitty Deadshot where they just spammed the same projectile over and over doesn't mean I am hustling them. It took them a while to understand that in literally every fighting game ever you can punish projectile spam without knowing anything about the game, since it is more or less the same in all of them, I think they got it eventually.

My gf plays alot of fighting games but she NEVER blocks. She said it's waste of time when you can just be attacking.

I can't lie her offense is amazing but she can never beat me and she said she never plays online, just computer.

I'm like, why don't you just get good so you can actually enjoy the game?

In mortal combat and blaz blue I'm good imo but tekkan and a lot of anime fighters I am not very good with imo

I'm the opposite. 3D fighters like Tekken, DoA, and VF are easy for me to grasp and git gud at. 2D fighters like Street Fighter and Blaz Blue leave me stumped from the jump, though.

Plenty of gamers could do it if they actually wanted to and put in the effort.

Those of us who learned how to do a dp didnt have a choice if you play a character who uses one. Its either learn it or completely gimp yourself by being unable to use a strong tool.

Agreed here. Everyone says GG strive is dumbed down, but I've had an easier time learning plus r. Because I actually want to learn shit. I go to dustloop, discord, practice and play endlessly.
